I folllow Texas closely (watch most every game on the tube, haven't missed a home opener in 15 years) so call me Homer if you want, but I have been fading these guys with some success the past week because thay always seem to start slow. Tonight I am putting a little on them because I like this spot for them.
I think they have been particularly tight due to the last minute trade of David Dellucci, the heart of the clubhouse. I think this really took the wind out of their sails at the last minute and Boston is not the team you wanna come out flat against (especially with Texas' always questionable pitching).
The word in the media around here is that last night's win really pumped these guys up, that the mood was noticeably upbeat as the team packed and that they are looking forward to the road trip as a opportunity to gel. I believe it 'cause they were getting booed at home (in their FIRST home stand!) and probably can't wait to get outta town. This alone should help them relax and hopefully find their strokes.
Loe did not look bad at all his last outing, he only made one mistake, a sinker to Nixon that stayed up and Trot made him pay for it with a 2 run HR.
Lackey can give the club fits at times but he sucks against Texeira (12-28, 2 HR, 9 RBIs) and was shelled his last outing.
Fading welcomed, I know better than most how bad these guys can stink up the joint, but I'm taking a shot tonight.
