Thome just missed a home run in the 4th. An RBI double to deep right center. 9 to 1 ChiSox , middle of 4.

As I said before, he is not even the best hitter on the team. And the White Sox getting rid of Thomas was not a great move but very understandable at the time.

Thome is the worst late inning hitter on the team and it was great to see him get that RBI tonight.

Hope this becomes a trend because he is big for the team.

I get that you don't think THome is clutch, but the worst late inning hitter on the team? Let's be serious.

there's still a reason the guy is pitched around every single inning including the late ones, while others on the squad aren't.

I watch every Sox game, and I mean every one. They never pitch around Thome, they go right after him. This is an unfair assessment though because he has Joe Crede and Jermaine Dye behind him. But pitchers would much rather pitch to Thome then Crede and the struggling Dye.

Podsednik - decent late inning hitter and did hit a walk off in the World Series
Erstad - Always been a clutch player
Konerko - One of the best big time hitters in the game
Dye - Won a World Series MVP and had multiple Walk Offs
Crede - Has won more games with walk off/game winning hits then anyone in baseball in the last 4 years outside of Ortiz
Pierzynski - Right next to Thome, might give slight edge to Thome
Uribe - Hits them more when they count then when the don't wish it weren't so though
Iguchi - 4 game winning hits in his first season in the big leagues...

Saying that is not a huge knock on Thome because as you can see the White Sox are a very good late inning team, which is why they came back in so many games the last two years. But Thome just isn't the guy the Sox fans want up late in games.

I am not hating on Thome because I am a big Sox fan and love what he brings to the table. But ask a lot of White Sox fans this question and they will most likely agree. Thome's problem is that he doesn't really put the ball in play late in games either, and that is frustrating, at least make them make a play.

The bench
Cintron
Ozuna
Anderson

every one of those players hit a walk off home run last season. Sounds so damn crazy but it is true. Pablo is my favorite player on the team because of how hard he plays and how big time he is. Would I take any of those guys over Thome really no, but I would take Pablo because I am an idiot and love the guys style. Would I take Uribe over Thome yes, Iguchi probably not, and Podsednik most likely not. But depends on the situation with Podsednik.

sorry but the only hitter on the white sox id want up in a clutch situation more than thome is konerko.

the rest of the guys, crede included, arent even close. maybe crede has some walkoff hits. but konerko and thome are the guys opposing managers truly fear and have to truly work strategize against. the rest of the guys are capable but dont exactly put fear in opposing pitchers.

Honestly you are insane. I usually agree with you but this is outrageous. Pitchers do not want to see Crede up at the plate. If you don't think he is feared late in games you do not watch Sox games. Thome hit .183 in LIPS last season and .172 with runners on in LIPS.

Year before that he hit .100 in LIPS and .111 in LIPS with runners on.

Year before that
LIPS .279
LIPS runners on .264

Thome also has never hit well with 2 outs and runners in scoring position he has hit below .200 the last 3 seasons.

Since I am a strong believer in every run being important in baseball, I think Thome is a key asset to the team. But he is not a clutch performer to say the least.

Since his career started Thome is hitting
.251 with 2 outs and RISP and .257 with runners on and 2 outs

How do you think Crede became my favorite player. Performing late in games.

thome has made a career out of coming up clutch and being able to carry a team. when crede does that, let me know.

doesnt mean i dont respect him or that he isnt a good player. its simply that thome, when healthy, is still a game changer.

He has not made a career out of coming up in the clutch. Even with the Indians he struggled big time in the clutch. There is nothing wrong with that because all runs count. Thome has even hit .229 in his post season career. Many forget the fact that outside his home runs in the playoffs he has done nothing. Thome is a GREAT hitter, but late in games I would take many on the Sox over him.
