Because the ball is juiced. Pretty obvious if you ask me. I mean all of these pitchers that have been great in the past, have been getting killed this year. Smoltz, Hudson, Milwood, Garland, Petitte....I mean the list goes on and on. What are your thoughts TN?

How do you explain 40 yr old Greg Maddux being 2-0 with a sub 2 ERA? Garland is getting tagged because he lost some of his velocity. Plus, he only had 1 good half last year.

Ball is not juiced for Bonds or Maddux. :puppy:

Honestly, I have no idea. However, I do find it a little strange that there are soooooo many runs being scored and so many HR's being hit.

Today 48 homeruns. 11 visitors win 4 home teams if Colorado holds on. Lot's of strange things. Seems to me if there was a power shortage this year everyone would talk about steroids and how the past few years and records are fake. Extra runs = less steroid talk.

Not sure what is the cause. I just remember the saying that pitchers are always ahead of the hitter early in the season. If this is true and the hitting is going to get better......

A juiced ball doesnt matter if you dont hit it

That says it all in a nutshell. I have seen a ton a pitchers hang pitches this year that have been knocked a mile.

but it also seems every mistake is hit out of the park.

I love betting totals. Probably my strongest wagers. I am scared to bet one right now. Especially under.

me too! And I am an under player more than anything....I thought long and hard three days ago about betting every game OVER until further notice and I did not do it...felt kind of sick all afternoon thinking about the money I would have won!

now I'm afraid to do it.:icon_conf

The balls aren't juiced at all; it's steroids galore in the biggest 'bush' sports league in the modern day world. You guys have to wake up and face what the so-called 'big wigs' have failed to face for years. Geeeez, open your damm eyes!

What about last season then, why were the numbers WAY WAY down?

Look at today's boxscores. Pitchers are giving up a ton of hits.

AL tonight: 6 games 139 hits 21 HRs 37 walks 3 errors

NL tonight: 9 games 167 hits 27 HRs 69 walks 13 errors

I don't think you can blame it all on a juiced ball.

The averages for a NL game today:

18 hits 3HRs 7 1/2 walks 1 1/2 errors.

On average today each NL game had 27 players reach base.

If you allow 9 free base runners to a team you are probably going to get lit up.

So, is it the pitching? Or is it the Umpiring? Or a combination. Or a fluke. I guess only time will really tell

I have seen a lot of inconsistency in the umpiring this year. Even within the same game. But in the end I just think we are seeing a lot of bad pitching so far.
