Kirk Gibson's 2 run blast in the bottom of the 9th, to start the series... FSN's behind the glory did a show on it that i saw most of just now...chills down my spine, you knew it was coming.
Thank Mel Didier, one of the LAD coaches who told Gibson in the scouting report that when Eckersley is in a pressure situation against a lefty-hitter, he throws the backdoor slider. 3-2 count, Gibson steps out, remembers, smiles at Didier at the bench (having remembered), then proceeds to hit the game winning HR, arguably the greatest moment in the history of baseball (not my opinion, but don't tell me you don't get goosebumps everytime you see Gibson pumping his fist twice before rounding 2nd base).
Lasorda's the man for sayin fuck it, I'm putting the big dawg in regardless of how he feels, even though the coach checked in on the player every inning beforehand tos ee how he was feeling, only to be given the thumbs down everytime until the 9th.
And thank Davis, the guy who batted .196 in the regular season, for getting walked with 2 outs to set up the historic moment. God I love Baseball. Makes me think of my own great times on the diamond. I miss it...
