As usual the Sportsbetting youth of today have no respect for their elderly Handicappers. Instead of giving us our own Forum where We could reminisce about old killings and Telegraph cutting coups, were made wander around the sports Forums looking for morsels of comfort. I am making this plea again as yet another once sharp pundit resigns himself to being a Weatherman to get an accolade, surely this is your future were talking about as well, so how about a forum. Youngsters can pop in and ask questions like, "whats the play today Grandad" and " was Evens the same in your day" then our more mature posters will feel wanted for their experince, not for sticking their head out of the window in San Diego or somewhere. :drink:

AS soon as you start giving old people what they want there will be chaos! Next you'll want liver and Onions on Monday, wednesday and thursday. Just be happy we let you out to walk the grounds at the rest home.

At the tender age of 39 and 13 years in the buisness I identify with what you are saying. I will say though its not disrespect, they barely know any of you exist. No one talks to the younger generation and they can in no way concieve of any old days like what we would remember. I have railed emotionaly on another site how not right it all is not.

Sugarbear,
You are correct. Anytime I post a very important betting topic, I am met with "winbet is on the sauce again" type answers, even though some of my cutting edge techniques are still unfamiliar today. The biggest blow to me is when I have my Afternoon stroll and leave the PC on showing the Forum, My Wife and Children see the replies, which is very upsetting for all of us especially my youngest Daughter who constantly asks why their taking the piss out of such a mine of gambling knowledge.

This generation lives the life online and go for different things from our point of view but are very normal to them. This genration is now only coming of age and are an average age of 21-28. The problem is that there is no mystique anymore. There are no old names or stories that they would have heard of while growing up in the 90's. No one in the 90's told any stories from just the time before for reasons I am sure you understand. Look at it like this.
Name one story or character in the last 15 years to really do anything for the mystique of the culture that would make anyone under 35 today want to know who they are or what they know. Exactly there isn't one. Therefore
they can not concieve of a past or the deep knowledge at all. Things have always happened on the net. Were you on the net?

Now think of a story or chracter from the 15 years prior to that which is 75-90 and what do you come up with? Open the floodgates, right? A lot of these people are still around and many know the good of there stories and what they have brought to the culture. The rest they do not need to know nor would they care. I know for a fact they will listen if someone will tell them. They may not understand but they do want to know. They simply do not know enough to ask, they would not know what it is they would want to know. There into bragging and being the Man not who are you and whats your story.

I post under the same name on Major Wager. Go to the fourms there and do an advanced search on Sugarbear. Start with the Dec 2nd Billy Baxter post
and go from there. You will see what my background is and what my intentions are. I have said much about this subject in my various threads there and many are on the same page as me but are slient about there thoughts as usual.

Some Of You Make Me Laugh

"Old Times" 1990-1975 WTF!! Old times HAVE to be at least before 1970. My next door neighbor was one of the original "Mn Jews" who at the old Lincoln Rec in Mpls FIRST originated the "line". Before that the only 2 sports widely bet other than the nags were BB & Boxing for obvious reasons. Now that`s old times. Lem Banker knows that era well, and you ALL could learn a lot from him. There is a hell of a lot more to sports betting than the BS that goes on over the NET. How`s things Coach? Love the OT`s Forum idea.

Sorry silver I was trying to keep it to 3 generations instead of 5. The last of the great stories people my age (39) and not much older or younger come from that time period. In addition if you think about it the first 50 years of bookmaking at least from a vegas pov is repersented by the movie casino.

I will also say as someone who has learned a lot from Lem I do not think anyone in the modern day who is not aware of who he really is would care to know what he knows.

You can add that the way things were taught to the next generation in the old days that this internet generation would go running home to there mommies in a heartbeat.

Lyle Berman a retired Mpls business man, occasionaly plays on the WPT, his dad was in LV in the "early" days and was associated w/Bugsy & Lansky. A few yrs ago his sister was featured on I believe the Discovery Channel as part of a series pertaining to that era. She was murdered a while ago don`t know the particulars. I`m sure Lem knew all these people and would have many tales. Yes indeed how times have changed. 39 eh gads I`ve got shorts older than that!

Mods we need a Old Days cappers fourm. Something that may work as an archive with a blend of history and knowledge throughout the years. Many here including yourselves have a lot to share. All need a place where they can do that and that for those who want to know can come and read about as well as ask questions.

There is a monster gap of knowlegde out there that has not been filled in a long time. Think about it. All the books and stories are between 20 and 30 years old and very few fit todays realitys. The best place to start closing that gap is right here at the RX.

All in favor say I.

Firstly, I would like to say I only started this thread as a laugh and taking a swipe at the joker posters that think they have found something new. As for teaching the young on here, who cares what they do, I have Two Daughters that I constantly train who think its a load of bollocks until they persistantly see green in my Betfair plays, then the penny drops, easy money. Well not so easy but you get the point, experience counts double in everything:drink:
