as long as you aren't going senile I would think the older the better as you have more experience. Fish you have a good 10-20 years left before mermaid has to change your diapers

Great question, I've been thinking about this lately. As history tends to repeat itself, I've been doing better lately and see a bright future, I think I'll be in my prime in about 5 years when I'm 40.

In my 20's I was too young undisciplined, less patient and underfunded in general. Now I have many more tricks up my sleeve.

I believe the answer has more to do with "gambling years" rather than years of age.

I would say at least 15 years of regular gambling.

Fish, at what age do you believe a gambler is in prime?

Answering this within a 10 year window/timeframe........36-46 years of age, which translates into only about 400 days of primetime gambling remaining for yours trully.

I will say a good 10 years but, reading and actually listening to some of the veterans you can shave a lot of time off now that the internet is here.

The problem is most people will still succumb to their own weaknesses and bet TV games, all the late games, just to have action etc.

The TV games and special night games will kill you....other than chasing this is still the biggest problem most people will have, not betting MNF etc.

Totally agree Jman 10-15 years is time involved and good listening skills.

I lean 15 years, but some starting oday will easily do it in 10.

Wish I would have had the type of info available today when I began more than 15 years ago.

Can only imagine what guys who began 40 + years ago think how this business has changed.

A seasoned gambler may see these games as opportunities with over inflated lines, as they have seen some of these situations before.

Ohhhhhhhhhh, Fish, I want to be you! Now, back to WVU's post. I think WVU is right on target with the senility thing and experience. Sometimes I can't remember my SS # but I can tell you that Nebraska was a "opening" 14 point favorite over Miami, in the 1984 Orange Bowl for the National Championship. OBTW, for inflation adjusted dollars, the largest bet I ever made. Florida was the ONLY loss Miami had that year and I was in Gainesville for that game. Florida beat Miami till they cried, and then beat them some more for crying. Just like yesterday. I hope I don't lose ALL of my memories. LT

Think about this though, if you were betting 50 a game in 1990 (just an example), and you're still betting 50, you're betting much less now.

If you have to take out loans to gamble, I don't think you've hit your prime and if you've been gambling for many years, and you need to borrow money to bet, then you may never get there. JMHO

I would think a good gambler could go well into his 90's and still be in his prime

Just don't ask a 90 year old gambler to get an erection....betting the wood and laying it are two different things.
