Guess it may not be FULL COVERAGE, but I have catastophic only through BLUE CROSS and pay a mere $36 a month.

This covers any catastrophic bills after a $10,000 deductible up to 2 million dollars.

If I have to see a doctor for anything during the year, I do not mind forking up a few bucks then instead of paying a ridiculous $300+ premium a month.

Other than check-ups, have not been to a doctor in 20 years, so don't need it.

I agree with Fish in that high deductible plans are the way to go, but you have to be able to sustain a $10,000 hit if you expereince health problems.

I have a $10,000 deductible plan for my family and pay about $200 a month through an HSA (Health Savings account) plan. I pay out of pocket for all doctor visits and hospital visits are covered after my deductible is met. I live in South Florida and rates for regualr policies are sky high for self-employed folk like myself. Always best in the long run to self-insure as much as you can afford to....that's why I like the high-deductible plans.

I have never looked into one of these , pretty complicated.

http://www.ushealthcareplans.com/planbenefits.htm

I just called the one above...the rates are around 100-140 a month and would cover anything major over $2,500 up to 2 million

I just don't want to be wiped out by something serious.

A plan like this is what I would prefer.

Dante not sure what you mean by $500 a month, how would average people who work for themselves be able to afford that?

Jman-

I am paying about $1200 a month for my wife and I through Aetna in a self-employed plan. Its pretty much full coverage and you can pick most of your doctors. Its alot but I need it for my wife currently.

Jman, my wife and I had a plan through Anthem, it was $270 a month, $20 copay, and $20 prescriptions i think. Up to 2 mil in coverage, with a 1K deductable.

E-healthinsurance.com is a great site, plug in your info, and it will give you rates from competeing companies. Similar to lending tree.

I need something more along the lines IF something bad happened , with a deductable, say 2,500 anything major would be covered..I've never been one to need a doctor , except for one year in my life.

Not a bad deal.

Personally, would rather only pay $36 a month with a $10,000 deductible rather than $125 with a $2500 deductible if one could choose between the two.

Good luck, it all sucks. :)

Stay healthy

I checked into Blue Cross several months ago and found a plan for $ 167.00 a month that covered me and my 10 year old.

Go to Blue Cross's web site and look under Blue Options and navigate around.

Thankfully I dont need to worry about that right now. With my separation and my wife working now, she carries the insurance at her job, excellent coverage.

A few months back, I was chekcing out Starbucks. You can work part time, and get full benifits. Don't know if you would want to look into something like that.

That's what it costs - even more in NY.

That's what I pay for a top tier plan with no referrals. You can bet that when I scratch my finger I'm at the doctor. If I think I have a fever, I'm calling for an appointment. And if I get mildy depressed because I cooked something medium instead of medium rare I'm at the shrink.

I need to get my money's worth.

Ya know?
