When you take defense and the whole package into consideration, I say there is little to no doubt that he is the 2nd best player in the game.

I think he's one of the, if not the, best hitter/fielder in baseball. His hitting isn't nearly as good as the likes of Pujols, Lee, Manny but his fielding is exponentially better than Manny and while Pujols does fine at 1st and Lee is a gold-glover, Andruw is the #1 defensive center fielder in the game and has been for nearly a decade.

If only he could hit consistently for average...

Andrew Jones not even in my top ten.....please, when he starts hitting for
average around August, then we can talk. Gold gloves are overrated.

My knock on him last year was what he hit with runners in scoring position, something in the low 200's. Way too low for an MVP candidate. I like the guy but he's not even close to being the 2nd best player in the game IMO.

No chance Andruw is the 2nd best player in MLB. As great as his defense is, I don't even think he sniffs the top 5.

I'd take A-Rod, Pujols, Vlad, Bonds, Maldanado, Destrade, Lemke, and Mcgee over that fool.

Jones' head has grown the last couple of years. He is now hitting the ball 100 feet further than he did the first 7 years he was in the league.

Top-5 for sure. His defense is a big part of his game. Not protected much in that lineup. I think he is every bit as good as Vlady.

Andrew Jones is a top 5 lock. Anyone who does not believe that does not know baseball.

Mike Schimdt hit for a low average. That did not keep him from being the the best 3rd ever.

Johney Bench hit for a low average also.

Andrew is a .270 career hitter. Thats not exactly Dave Kingman type numbers.

Best player is either David Ortiz or Albert Pujols. No one else holds a candle to them in the " I wagered on the other team and I am scared to death of which player batting from the other team," department.

If anyone comes up with ANY other player than these two you are either not a gambler, lying or both.

Ortiz is a great hitter who contributes zero in the field.
Out of the question to consider a DH the best player in the game.

Ortiz is perfectly capable of playing first base. Over the long haul he is subpar defensively, but he could play there every day.

then the stupid he cant be MVP or the new " he contributes nothing in the field" whatever the hell that means would evaporate.

I respect defense but the he doesnt play the field so he is ineligable for an award that doesnt require it argument makes little sense to me. Argue it on other points, OK try, but not non-sensical stuff.

If you had money on the other team and a player came up with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the ninth, list all the players you would like to see hitting less than David Ortiz or Albert Pujols. Answer... none

If he was good enough defensively to play first base every day he would be there. Best player in the game should be the best overall player not a great hitting DH. Isn't a run saved by a great defensive play just as important as a run driven in?
