Im browsing pinnacle right now, and most of the games have "8 cent lines". To me this means both sides average out to -104.

In otherwords, the sum of both sides equals -8.

But in the cases of heavy favorites, when the favorite is -200 or better, it seems there is a 16 cent difference.

Is there a reason for this? Or am I just missing something.

Just the way it is with juice. Same goes for football, if you have a close point line, the money line will be in 5 or 10 dollar incriments, but as the point line increases, the money line will be in 50 or 100 jumps. Basically the bigger the favorite the larger the juice jumps.

Its all about the book's hold or return given equal action on both sides. If you convert the lines into percentages, you'd see this easier.

Take your -104/-104 example. Convert both of those to percentages, add them up and then subtract 100%. 50.98% + 50.98% - 100% = 1.96% This is Pinnacle's take given equal action.

Now -200/+184. 66.67% + 35.21% - 100% = 1.88%

If Pinnacle held that 8 cent line all the way up the scale, their hold would decrease as you move up the scale. The 16 cent line at -200 helps them keep their hold consistent with the -104/-104s.
