Utah State QB arrested, accused of rape

LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Utah State quarterback Jerod Walker has been arrested and accused of raping a female student, police said Saturday.

The 19-year-old Walker turned himself into campus police on Thursday and was booked into the Cache County Jail, according to a release from USU Department of Public Safety.
Walker posted bail and was released from jail the same day. He is expected to be charged with a felony and arraigned next week.
Walker was suspended from the team, pending the legal proceedings, and did not participate in a short scrimmage on Friday, said Utah State spokesman Mike Strauss. He started two games as a freshman last season and was expected to compete for the starting job in 2006.

LOGAN, Utah A Utah State University quarterback has been arrested and booked into jail for investigation of first-degree felony rape, police said.

Jerod Walker, 19, turned himself into campus police on Thursday and was booked into the Cache County Jail, a USU Department of Public Safety news release states. The Cache County attorney's office has reviewed the case, the release adds.

Walker posted bail and was released from jail the same day.

``He denies it,'' said USU police Lt. Steve Milne.

Milne said the allegations stem from a report by a 20-year-old female student who told police she went to Walker's on-campus apartment on April 9 and was raped. The two are acquaintances, police said.

The woman went to police within hours of the alleged attack, after first disclosing it to friends, Milne said. After meeting with police, she went to the hospital, he added.

Walker has been suspended from the team pending the legal proceedings and did not participate in a short scrimmage on Friday, said Mike Strauss, USU athletic media relations director.

Walker is expected to be charged and arraigned next week.

Walker came to USU last year from Houston, where he was an all-district quarterback at Jersey Village High School. He started two games for USU in 2005 and was expected to battle for a starting slot for the 2006 season.

I will never understand what leads people to doing such things and thinking they will get away with it. I think anyone who can be proven to have raped someone should get life because we don't need people like that on the streets.

Utah State is not even Utah let alone a Michigan or Oklahoma. No real motivation here financially for this girl to cry rape, but will wait on the facts.

What does that have to do with anything? You've never heard of a girl cry rape for any other reason other than for financial gain? Gimme a break...there are a variety of reasons girls do that shit. Never heard the one about the girl getting drunk, fucking a guy, then feeling guilty about it the next day, so she claims rape? Or the girl who wants to get back at her ex? Etc etc etc...there are PLENTY of reasons girls will cry rape, legitimate or not...not just for financial gain.

She is probably a Mormon girl who was saving herself for marriage and the parents/friends would have a heart attack if she had sex...let alone with a guy from a different race.

I will agree with that, but I only brought up one thing. Sure people make more claims of being raped than just financial gain.

this actually is very huge...watched him play vs. Hawaii...the guy played well for them at the end of the year, much better IMO than the Jackson kid...and they suck pretty bad, they can't really afford this...

I've said it before, I believe the name of someone who is "alleged" of committing a crime should remain anonymous until convicted. That would prevent a hell of a lot of people from crying wolf for whatever sick need they have to slander someone's name.
