I am at almost 4 weeks with not having bet anything ( except Poker online)

My question is to those that also take breaks, im sure thier are a few...

Do you feel the urge stronger when you start again after a 2-3 month break?

I am feeling very stress free this past 4 weeks not having to worry about a score and what teams are doing ..

thanks for any thoughts on this

I know what you mean. When I was forced to take a vacation many years ago, it was like I lost interest in the sport. Never had to check scores every five minutes etc. But if it's in your blood, if there's no action......there's no excitement. When you've been doing this as long as me, you get very jaded because you've seen almost everything. I can have a significant amount of money on a game, and not even watch it, or fall asleep during it. I found out that the score isn't going to change in tomorrows paper, so why agravate myself.I'll have action every night on the NBA playoffs, but I don't thing I've watched a whole quarter on ALL the games combined.

Good idea.

You will come back much more refreshed and ready to go.

Besides whats the point of making all this $$ if you cannot take time off to enjoy life?

Great thread, Dante. I'm enjoying a break myself right now.

I think we all agree that a break can be healthy.

When I get back at it, I find I am "refreshed," but I wouldn't say the urge is stronger. The pent up weeks of non-gambling don't break the dam, so to speak. I ease back in.

The thing I really notice about myself in gambling (be it capping or in a casino or any type of gambling) is that it's hard to convince myself when is a good time to stop.

If I'm ahead, I think "Why would I stop now, I'm winning?"

If I'm behind, I think "I can't stop now, I have to get those losses back!"

If I'm even, I think "I can't stop now, what was the point of all this action just to be even?"

Amateurish thinking from a recreational gambler.

But I find that once I'm away from it, I don't get as caught up in all the excitement, I can let it go. Capping begats capping.

I'm taking a break as well and noticed how great it feels is an undersatement. Almost makes you wonder why you gamble?

I think what makes it feel good is that you are in control of your gambling and if you want to shut it down for a few you CAN DO IT without the shakes :drink:

to stop posting now that is another story....that seems to be more addicted then gambling:icon_conf

I take a break for 3 months or so, also. I play poker a few nights a week to keep the action flowing through the blood.

Just nice in the summertime to be able to go outside and enjoy the fresh air without running in to watch the ticker.

I use the time to read up on anything and everything that is college football. I buy Phil Steeles mag the second it hits the stands. You will be AMAZED what this will do for you. I have murdered the books the first couple of weeks of the season b/c of the info.

Hint: pay close attention to the teams that return the majority of their O-line playing against teams with depleted front 7's

I'm a football only better. I don't care for basketball until March Madness, I can't stand the NBA. If I was betting on it I'd be watching a sport only for the action. I love baseball because I grew up playing the sport, but I don't gamble on it.

I'm a recreational gambler. A lot of guys here play year round and I don't know how they have the time to do it. Football season arrives and I basically have to drop all other activities to maintain any sort of an edge and continue working too.

At the end of the college football season, I go through serious depression. It is by far my favorite sport to bet on and participate in. I then slip into NFL mode and end up losing everything I won in college football. Once the superbowl is over, there is a HUGE weight off my shoulders and I can enjoy life again.

Enjoy your break Dante.

Man, wasn't that the truth in this past season of the NFL favorite! I lost track of how many Saturdays I was up 2-10 units on the week and gave it all back betting on NFL dogs who traditionally cleaned house. Will be interesting to see if this year reverts back to the mean and the squares can give us (and the books) our $$ back.

Dante, I actually haven't been on the Rx for several days. It's nice to take a break from ALL activities, even the Rx, for a little while. I suppose if my wife and I had sex all day every day I'd want a break from that, too, but I will never find out.

I gamble starting the first week of college and go through the NCAA tournament...as much as I'm waiting for the college football season to start up again, I do enjoy my time off...just get rejuvinated, re-charge my batteries...

I am mainly in WC Bias mode. Love CFB, like CBB. It would not bother me if ALL pro sports would vanish. I am a Crusty Ole Uncle! :lolBIG:  LT

If you "feel the urge" to gamble you almost certainly have a gambling problem to some degree.

yeah dante,...did you notice at first when you just laid off wagering,....you wanted to check/follow lines,..pay attention to lines/etc like you normally did,....but once you can break free from what seems the norm,.....how great is it to just relax and not worry about a certain line or a certain score,....i mean once free,...it isnt so bad and you can pretty much breethe,...less stress etc,.................i just dont see how any one person can stay at it allll year long,....for me the college/pro foots is more desireble but anyhow you choose it,....if ya go at it all year,....more power to ya, but please try and find time to relax and recharge,....you may think you will loose money but i think you will need the time and yuo might as well use it to your advantage:thumbsup2: :modemman:
