So you have a geezer who pitches in the 9th innings, I think you call him a save, which considering how many times it goes tits up is a joke. Anyways, in my stupidity, I assume this Bollocks is a good pitcher but not for any longivity. If so, why not play this nonsense at some other stage of the game to right the ship, EG, when the starting Pitchers arse is getting fingered by the opposing batters, pretty simple stuff really. Then maybe he will be rested enough in the 9th if needed, sometimes I wonder what the States would be like now if they hadnt revolted. :drink:

I feel like I'm reading a post by Ian Gillian of Deep Purple. :drink:

The pitcher they bring in the ninth is the reliever and he's trying to "save" the game for the starter.

I agree he shouldn't be limited to the late innings for a save. Games could be decided at anypoint really.

FAT TONY, YOUR ON MY GOOD GUY LIST. Just for remembering Ian Gillian. Many moons ago I used the same watering hole in London as him and Ozzy, although I couldnt keep up with them. I'll say now as I always said, they were all great people and done plenty of geezers a favour. :drink:

Sounds like you want to use the closer for a few batters in the 5th, and then again in the 9th ? You can't bring the guy back into the game, once he exits, if that's what you're suggesting.

My friend was able to ask him a question on a radio program last week. Asked him if he would ever sing "Child in time" again.

Ian told him "No way in bloody hell. It's a pain in the ass."

Doug,
Thanks for being the first person to point that out, funny how nobody has sais before that once a pitcher goes out, he's gone. And you would have to wonder why the rules are like that, anyway, I have had my fill of this nonsense, I value money too much. :drink:

There is one way around it. If the pitcher pitched a bit in the 5th, then had the ability to play another position ( like 1st base), he could return to pitch later in the 9th, but there are really no players with this ability.

Ian's a good geezer, Richie Blackmore was the arsehole in that gang. I remember Ian ordering a Cab from the studios one day to go to Central london because he had a toothache. The Cab driver came in crying because his car had broke down and his earnings were zero that week, Ian ordered a whip round the bar which almost paid for a new Car. Those Guys used to start drinking 10 am right through till 12 that night, 7 days a week, no wonder Ozzy is the way he is. :drink:

[1] He's called a "closer" who tries to get the "save", i.e. save
or "close" out the win for his team which is leading in the 9th.
If his team is up by a lot of runs he may not be used so he
can be saved {kept fresh} for the next game.

[2] They'd be like the wrong side of the sea ;

I see the Tampa game ended in another farce, was that a good example of putting in a pitcher to save the game?:missingte I think I'll quit while I'm ahead, this game appears to be all guess work and ridiculous luck. :drink:

Does that work in video games???

I'm not sure about video games. I believe this has been done a long time ago. As manager you can position your fielders wherever you want, so if pitcher A moves to first ( 1st baseman out of game), and pitcher B is brought in, then pitcher A can later return to pitch. In theory the 2 pitchers could switch back and forth all game long. I believe its within the rules, just not practical.
