OT: Racial terms...Colored and Honky ( Honkie?)

Both are kind of old fashioned. I don't think either is terribly offensive. Who started the NAACP, it wasn't some Honky ?

Actually the only reference I have to Honky comes from the George Jefferson TV character. I'd bust out laughing if a black guy called me Honky !

I never heard a black person refer to themselves as colored, and rarely Afro-American, usually black is the term used. I don't like to see young blacks call each other...******. That ain't cool !

I'm not racist at all, but that Honky thing from All in the Family always cracked me up, it just wouldn't insult me.

The colored thing is darker ( no pun intended), it was sort of OK in the 70's, but traces to earlier times with water fountains and such labeled colored only.

The first car thing got me thinking about this stuff.

Honkey was a term used by slaves because the masters used to come around and honk their horns to get their attention when they were in the fields.

I couldnt believe how many time the n word is dropped in the black community. They pronouce with an a versus r but still means same.

So the term African American is probably wrong in most instances.

"Honkey" was probably derived from Civil War era "Yankee". Possibly a combination of the Wolof word honq meaning pink or pale and hunky, an alteration of bohunk, a nineteenth-century pejorative term for an Eastern European.

I believe most modern US blacks can trace their ancestry to Africa, they didn't come from France a few generations ago.

Hey it is acceptable now for white people to call blacks ni**a. Still
can't call a black a Ni**er but thats cool. Alot of black people I know

I think the worst thing you can call a black guy is an "uncle tom", it really seems to piss them right of.
