Starts up again tonight, Johnny Damon and the Yanks stroll into Fenway for the first time in 2006.

Is this the best rivalry in pro sports? It sure seems like this one has been competetive more than any other, both these clubs are usually atleast good ...A lot of the other great rivalries have had long periods where one or the other team has been bad for a long period(Cowboys/Redskins for example)

Can't wait for the series to start tonight.

If you count soccer, then USA vs Mexcio has to be considered one of the best rivalries.

In the NHL it changes every few years, but for a while there is was Detroit/Colorado...some of the best hockey I have seen my whole life, there was a war going on with these two teams and during the war they had to somehow fit a hockey game in.

It is the best overall rivalry. Other sports occasionally have rivalries that heat up, but it's all driven through nostalgia. Yankees-RedSox is year after year, lots on the line in each game, using your whole team up to win the games rivalry. The nostalgia is there also, but each year it renews itself whereas other rivalries heat up and cool down.

In looking at the standings from 1980 to the present, this rivalry only has significance in the lsat 7 years or so. Prior to that, each year one of the teams, or sometimes both, were not even remotely close in pennant races. I would argue that until recently there were a lot of games from 1980-1996 where there was little to nothing on the line.

But as for the here and now, yes it's the best rivalry going.

At one time, Dallas-Washington was THE rivalry in all of pro sports, I do believe. Seems to have lost its luster, to say the least.

Living in these parts, (exactly halfway between Cleve and Pitt), the Browns-Steelers rivalry is quite unique. Resembles a college rivalry atmosphere whenever these two teams play, regardless of records.

I think the Sox/Yankees is tops for one simple reason:

The two sides have an eye on each other and their respective teams the entire calendar year.

It doesnt matter the month, any negative Yankee news we eat that right up and start gloating and biquering. Any positive Sox news we eat that right up, and start gloating and biquering.

I've seen me and my buddys have some of the most hateful and heated debates with Yankee fans in December and January. Nevermind when they are actually playing.

Everything little thing means something in the Sox/Yanks Rivalry. All year 'round.

In the US, yes.

If you want real rivalries, nothing compares to soccer rivalries.
