Holy shit! i just got the results from a recent physical. to top it off i have lost about 20lbs and changed my eating and drinking habits, and the shit is off the chart.

the doc said she wants to see me in 4 more months. this is a reality check for me, i have made a life style change already, but this does nothing but motivate me more.

she said most cholestral comes from animal fat, i am thinking of going vegetarian. anyone know if beer can raise cholestral?

Change your diet to foods with less fat and walk at least four times a week for about 30 minutes and you will drop your cholesterol below 200. I was at around 240 and now 170 simply by changing my diet and walking.

what beer does is actually raise your triglicerids count

Going vegetarian long term may not be the best for your health , there are certain aminoacids that can only be obtained through animal sources

I suggest simply moderation regarding fried foods/ give up fast food (french fries/onion rings etc), increase salad consumption etc , I am sure your physician can come up with a BALANCED plan for your goal

Your DIET and FAMILY HISTORY are 5x more important than your exercise program when it comes to cholestral........although exercise is very important too!!

The only way I know of having chol. checked is to have blood drawn and have it sent to a lab by your doctor.

WOW that is a big number, but at least you are getting it looked into and trying to get better. one thing i have heard is that a bowl of oatmeal a day will help lower your cholesterol. perhaps that was an oatmeal commercial (?????) but anyways, cholesterol is ONLY in animal products...plant products contain no cholesterol (which all cereals boast how they have no cholesterol...well DUH), so that is why beer has no cholesterol. some ppl are in the best shape, eat perfect, exercise and still have off the chart cholesterol levels...sometimes u need some meds too.
