What is to stop other players from taking a few extra months off now?

He will hold out until he see's which team has the best shot at going all the way, and which team will pay the most for him for his 4 months Bos, NYY ,and Texas .

I can see other players doing this late in their career and why not!?

As big a fan as I am to see these great players push forward deep into the record books ,crap Clemens is pulling isn't right.

He already had a unique deal before. Just fly to wherever to make his start, then he didn't have to stay with the team, go home until HIS next game.

Journey: I agree. I don't think it's right that he can just sit back and wait and then whichever team he thinks has the best chance to win it all he can join. I can see some rule coming out of this in the next few years keeping players from doing this. Clemens is unreal but I don't like the way he is going about this.

The concept of a true 'team' is on it's way out. Maybe from here in they will spell the word T-E-I-M ... you know, putting the "I" in team. Different world now, not for the better.

Sure its right. He is a free agent and has the right to do what he pleases. Everyone here if they had the chance to have three or more companies tripping over themselves to get your services would let them bid against each other to see where he ends up. No matter what he says about winning since all those teams are great in the end if he comes back it will be mostly due to money.

if thats the case you would have to disallow teams trading halfway through the season in an "effort" to get better.

He's allowed to do it, but I don't like it either. Just not respectful of the game IMHO.

Totally agree with you D2. He isn't doing anything wrong but it's a bad trend to start I think. I wish he would just retire if he doesn't want to play an entire season.

Disagree, you are coming from the position of its all about $$$ - bottom line. This guy was set for life a long time ago, he doesn't know how to be unselfish and thats the problem. Many others will follow suit now. Where will Lebron James be 10 yrs from now? His own jet, playing against teams he chooses, no long road trips???? Bad trend starting. If it heads in that direction I'll give up sports.

Ok number one does he want to play again if he says yes then out of Hou, NYY, Bos he will go to the team that offers the most money plain and simple if he didnt then he would of signed with Houston in the winter or signed as a free agent somewhere else. Plus the reason Roger is waiting til now also isnt solely because he is selfish he can't pitch the full year anymore his body broke down in the playoffs so with the extra two months rest his body should be able to go the rest of the year. Players get whatever owners give them so be it peaks or money I dont see why people complain about it you are not the one signing the check so aslong as he does his job every 5th day which he does then all is well.

Not necesarily, I could see NY offering moe money and him staying in Houston...either way this isn't in the best interest of the game.

The Yankees will have to offer alot more money since if the Yankees offer 14 million and the Astros 12 million while it will be claimed as a hometown discount in reality its a wash since Texas has much lower state taxes.

You are correct and he is wrong for this even though he can do this legally. The problem I have is that I've followed this guy for 20+ yrs now and bottom line he is full of shit! He is a phony who says whatever he feels is the best thing to say at that point in time, true or not. He is one of many who cop-out on this "Family" crap, he and most do not care about their families as they claim, free time they're on the links or buddying up with fellow jocks somewhere. Or with Sir Charles in Vegas maybe.

SO RETIRE ALREADY!!!! and he is selfish more than anyone I know in sports!

I have heard this guy say a million times "anyway I can help my teammates" okay! To be sincere in this there are certain things you do with your team and a certain code you follow. He should be ashamed to accept grats that his teammates are not getting. Someone on a given team has to make the most money, at least in this system as is, so I don't have a problem with who that is on any team but in recent years many lines have been crossed. I know I'm being severely old school here but there could be negative ramifications from all his BS and he should recognize it and turn away from it. He's already retired a half dozen times so one of these years he should actually mean it!!!! I just want him to go away. BTW, he just might be the best pitcher I have ever seen.

This is why baseball isn't the number 1 sport anymore. You couldn't pay me to go to a baseball game. i would wipe my ass with the FREE world series ticket. When is football going to start? Greedy owners and players ruined the game.

I'm sick of hearing about it. And it seems like Roger is always available for comment, which makes it even more annoying.

2 things I really could go on without hearing about anymore : Clemens and Bonds.
