BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) -- Charles Barkley says he has a gambling problem, estimating in an interview that he's lost about $10 million over the years.
"My agent has really worked with me to try to get it where I can go and gamble and have fun," Barkley told ESPN in an interview Wednesday. "That's easier said than done. Do I have a gambling problem? Yeah, I do have a gambling problem. But I don't consider it a problem because I can afford to gamble."

Barkley said he's not concerned about his habit because he has enough money to cover his losses, though he did say he hoped to wager less money.
"When I gamble I should be playing $1,000 a hand instead of $20,000 a hand, because if I played for $1,000 a hand I probably could lose $50,000 to $100,000 a hand instead of millions of dollars," Barkley said. "And I've got to reach a happy medium because I've told all of the people in my life that first and foremost it's my money."
Barkley said the thrill of competition has a lot to do with his urge to wager. "I like to gamble and I'm not going to quit," he said. "I've just got to get it under control."

I was in LV once staying at the same Hotel him and ALL his buddys were once dureing Super Bowl weekend. The Sportsbook clerk told me that he bet 500k on a side, he didnt say which side.
But later i found out that he was in fact on the RIGHT side. He lost ALL of that playing black jack before daylight on monday morning, they said!

Think for a minute these guys with "problems" aren't involved while they are actively playing?

If nothing else, I again give credit to Sir Charles for the candid nature of his interview. The words he spoke certainly sounded like someone with a problem, and someone with who the wheels could come off quickly. I personally like him and hope that he's put enough of a system of people around him (moreso than just his agent who he employs and could easy tell to take a hike) to help him deal with his problem.

I thought I heard he was very good with sports gambling. I thought I

remember hearing he took the Patriots on the moneyline vs the Rams in

2001 for a huge payoff. He knows many athletes and therefore has

access to a lot of info

didn't John Daly say he lost 50 mill? Maybe Barkley admits it now so he has some cover since he is only in for 10

Can you imagine knowing, or even worse working for Barkley or Daly once they admit this?

He seemed pretty ignorant though...and that is unusual for Barkley.

One of the stupidest things he said was "because it isn't alcohol or drugs, it isn't a problem".

The last thing any reasonably intelligent high dollar celeb wants to do is raise some more red flags with the IRS.

It's funny that you stated the IRS, because those were my last words when I posted and deleted them because I didn't want to bring up the IRS.

Locinos, to take it a step further, I wouldn't be surprised if some of these celebrity "massive losses' stories weren't bogus attempts to support their bogus tax returns.

I read a book "Gambling and Taxes" or something like that. They talked about how high rollers can get in trouble with the IRS if they don't document and report their losses each year. Even if you are a net loser, the IRS wants those losses reported, even though there are no tax benefits for doing so.
