Compare the two if you could please and feel free to discuss both openly.

Both can be totally destructive to the individual and their families.

Which is worse in your opinion?

Thanks in advance,

IMO, drug problems are worse. A gambling problem can and will cost you everything you have. A drug problem will do the same thing plus it will kill you.

What about the individuals that committ suicide because of gambling?

Gambling can kill also.

ALWAYS bet with your head, NEVER over it.

Most compulsive gamblers don't kill people to get money to gamble. They only hurt themselves and maybe their family financially. As long as the gamer understands that it is entertainment they will be okay. If you think you will be a millionaire over the long term, then it is probably time to stop.

An example.. I played Blackjack in Costa Rica for the first time in 4 years. I played with $20 in chips, played for 10 minutes, gave myself a stopping time, and walked out with $41 (took the house for $20 in 10 minutes). Will I go and play Blackjack there every weekend? No. Every few years I like to sit with friends and play, but I never go by myself... it has to be a social thing.

Tough question to answer, drugs are illegal in this country and gambling is allowed in certain places like LV or AC or many Indian reservations. So I would probably say drug addiction b/c drugs are illegal and some forms of gambling are legal like lotteries and scratch offs. Here in NY all bars have Quick Draw which is KENO but they payout is about 1/2 of what you would receive if you played in a casino. Most people call it VIDEO CRACK

Don't laugh, but I think soda pop addiction is in some ways worse than gambling and drug addiction.

Unlike drugs and gambling, it is socially acceptable to drink pop anywhere you are 24 hours a day. Hell, there are pop machines in every building on every street corner, in every school, etc. It is a silent killer, thinning bone mass, causing kidney stones, obesity, diabetes.

However many drug & gambling addicts there are, I would wager (pun intended) that there are many more people addicted to soda or coffee, which could be considered drug addiction, I guess.

No doubt in my mind drinking 2+ sodas a day is worse than drinking 3 or less alcoholic drinks a day.

MODERATION is the KEY.........the wisemen were correct.

And again, the worst thing about soda pop or coffee addiction is that while one could not legally/socially sit in a business meeting and smoke a cigarette, do a line of coke, pop in a dip of chew, or play online blackjack, no one bats an eye when you sip on a jug of coffee or pop.

Likewise, most people don't perceive pop and coffee as health threatening because they don't cause dramatic deaths and/or bankruptcy like drugs, alcohol, or gambling addiction can, but they slowly and quietly chip away at our bank accounts and health.

I guess I'm sensitive to this issue because my wife, who was on the college dance line and weighed about 130 when we got married, understandably gained up to about 160 while pregnant with our 2nd daughter. She subsequently became addicted to Pepsi (not diet, either!) and is now tipping the scales at 202 lbs. Our youngest daughter is 6! My wife has gained 40 lbs in 6 years by drinking pop, and I can't get her to stop. I really don't mind her gaining weight as much as I worry about her health and the effect that her weight gain has on her self esteem.

depends on the drug. If the drug was marijuana then I would say gambling is a bigger problem.

Both addictions imo ...

..are two peas in a pod.

Not only can they have an effect on the individual abusing them..but, on their loved one's as well.

Control in both cases,is the biggest factor.

40 lbs in 6 years from drinking Pepsi? How many does she drink a day....there have to be other factors here besides pop....I agree that is not good for you and can lead to weight gain but it sounds excessive to blame on soft drinks unless you drink a 2 liter per day every day.

I used to bartend at a bowling alley and there was a girl who would drink 2-3 44 oz pepsi's a week every week. I've never seen someone drink that much pop during a 2-3 hour time period.

Patswin, she drinks about 64 oz per day. Her parents are both overweight, and she was thin when she was young & active, but that's over!

While it seems hard to believe that this could cause her to gain 7 lbs per year, Mens Health magazine had an article in there that if people drink 1 less pop per day they can lose 10 lbs per year! I believe it--people don't realize how much sugar is in just a 12 ounce can of pop. Get out a metric measuring cup and measure 42 grams of sugar sometime....it will make you sick to see how much sugar you drink in one small soda.

I wondered how much sugar is actually in pop cause I don't think its listed on the nutrition label. Does diet soda have less sugar....they all say 0 calories but if it has sugar in it it has to have calories
