He's not far if not - and he is just as clutch in the last minute.

Yes, Kobe - the player that truly resembles Jordan - unfortunately, for him he ain't going to be playing John Starks and the NY Knicks for a ring every year.

No, Kobe is not as good as MJ was.

Seymour, not sure how the bulls played starks for the rings....within the conference the pistons were usually the main competition....don't remember the knicks being a real good team at any point.

He is a better shooter and believe it or not he is probably more clutch (if that's possible) - but for some reason I agree that Jordan is still better - regardless, Tim Duncan still gives you the best chance to win a ring - Western Conference finals go tommorrow night.

If Jordan is a 10, Kobe has to be a 9, not too far from MJ. I'm tired of hearing all the MJ backers saying Kobe is not anywhere near Jordan. That's a bunch of bull. Even though I don't like the guy, you haev to give him his props. The guy scored 82 freakin points this year and has been making some of the most unbelievable shots I've ever seen. Some more amazing than Jordan's(one being that side court three shot tonight which I don't think Jordan could have made that shot). In my book, ARGUABLY on par with Jordan.

The rules in the nba have changed...it's easier to score a ton of points like kobe did now than it was when MJ played. Regardless, MJ's career average, if I am not mistaken, is well above kobes. But scoring aside, MJ was heads and heels above kobe on the defensive end and I think mj was better at making hs teammates better. Also, so far kobe has won zero titles without shaq....mj never had another awesome player like shaq to play with - and don't say pippen because pippen was nothing without jordan.

First of all Jordans team was so much better in all ways and scored less points and played better defense. Jordan put up the points and his team rarely needed 100 in his championship years. He had way better teammates that could score too. Is it possible that Kobe can grow into this with his team. Jordan started with a crap team and was just flying around scoring. At some point with Pippen etc the team got good and Jordan and the bulls finally got recognition for winning and defense. since Kobe is almost in this spot at almost the same age here is it possible?? no no ...because of two things. Kobe has three rings early and will not have the drive anymore to make this team by himself like Jordan did. Also these guys have very different games. Kobe choses to play the way he does when he has the talent to do way more. He is priviledged educated smart lazy spoiled. He was rich as a kid and the clear top prostect around here immeadiately and he could only go to certain teams in the nba. He couldn't live with Shag and the many more rings that would come with him. I do hate him because his best nights are really when he hits 3's. I think its too late for him to become the much greater player he could be and his team mates won't stay long with him if they can play. Just think of all the players that are good and either stars or great role players that once and no longer play with Iverson.

Most impotantly Jordan fought and drove for his points including the ones from the line from fouls. Its been a long time and many just remember the older Jordan that relyied on the Jump shot and his reputation to get the calls and saved his enery for burts of excellent play.

The first 3 championships were insane. Jordan would get beat up all game and not stop until he crushed a teams will. He also was about a ten times better defensive player than Kobe. He put his mind and heart into defense like no other that also scored. kobe could be that good if he wanted to be the Defensive Mvp and was willing to fight of the bodies driving inside and going to the line or dishing the ball. He drives when he is out of control or thinks he can get an easy clear path to the basket. And of course passes too little and not when its the right time. I.e. when his moves or drives have opend up a player. He shoots way too much from the outside and often without even one pass in the offensive set. Of course his team suffers but he is very good just could be so much better. Kobe could also easily post up his opponent and score inside with his back to the basket or pass from there yet when do we ever see it. He is content at the thee point line.

Kobe is as good as Jordan YES. But there is one stat that makes
it impossible to say Kobe is better than MJ. Here it is.

FG%
Kobe 45%
Jordan 51%

The best defender back in those days was Hakeem Olajuwon, hands down. He would shut down David Robinson in his prime, Patrick Ewing, basically any center. Some even argued that Hakeem in his prime was a better player than Jordan, a more complete package. Jordan was a good defender from the outside but he missed an element that is required to be called a great defensive player- rebounding.

I'm sorry but, Jordan was a guard first of all and for guards he rebounded like no other.

His numbers were spread all around steals assists pts rebs.

Akeem was very good. As for complete he was a complete center. He did win some titles while Jordan played baseball. As far a shutting down Ewing and the other great centers I'm sure they got thier numbers but maybe a bit lower than thier average. Jordan won with no center and He and Pippen were basically two point forwards. Heck Barkley for a while was almost as good. It over time too.

One thing. Jordan is the only player the maintain his career regular scoring numbers in the playoffs. That is of the top scorers in history. Add that to the rings ,the game winning shots and the mystique of the two baseball seasons and there is no other. Magic is the only semi modern player that I believe comes close as he could do it all and carry a team yet Magic passed the ball too. Aids finished his carreer to early. Bird had that special score pass win make your team better thing too.
