Looks like Alford is doing a damn good job lately...suprisingly!! Top 10 recruiting class now....cant remember last time that happened. Just grabbed big transfer from Seaton Hall.

David Palmer, who played his freshman year at Seton Hall University this past season, has signed a letter of intent to transfer to the University of Iowa and join the Hawkeye men’s basketball program.

Palmer is a 6-9, 240-pound forward/center who will have three seasons of eligibility at Iowa after sitting out the 2006-07 season. Palmer is a native of Antioch, TN who attended Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, VA as a senior.

“We’re excited to add a player and person of David’s quality,” said Iowa Coach Steve Alford. “He has one year of Big East Conference experience, and he can learn our system and continue to grow and mature over the next year. He adds size to our incoming class and fits in very well with our previous commitments. With the addition of David, we continue to add athleticism as we build on our past success and strive to raise the bar on what we want to accomplish.”

Palmer played in 27 games at Seton Hall, averaging three points and two rebounds in 9.7 minutes per game. He had a season-high 11 points and seven rebounds in a win over Morgan State and added eight points in games vs. Villanova, North Carolina State and DePaul.

As a senior at Oak Hill, Palmer averaged 5.8 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting 56% from the field as a part-time starter for a team that was ranked as the top team in the nation, according to USA Today.

Palmer played for three seasons at Antioch HS, averaging 14 points a game as a junior while playing only the final 10 games of the season after recovering from a broken ankle. He competed in the 2003 Nike Hoop Jamboree and the 2003 Nike All-American Camp.

Palmer joins forward Tyler Smith (6-7, 210) and guard Malik Perry (6-5, 225) as additions to the Iowa program this spring. During the fall signing period Iowa added Jamie Vanderbeken (6-10, 235) from Belleville, Ontario, Canada, Cyrus Tate (6-8, 240) from Northeast (NE) Community College and Justin Johnson (6-6, 190) from Tyler, TX Community College. Smith, Perry and Vanderbeken will be freshmen in 2006-07, Tate a sophomore and Johnson a junior.

Iowa’s incoming class is being recognized as one of the top 10 recruiting classes in the nation by some publications, including Hoop Scoop, which ranks the Iowa class ninth nationally.

Thanks for the update Viking. I hadn't heard that. Hope Alford can start doing something soon because he has been a real disappointment imo. Looking forward to football season to see how the Hawks do this year.

They are kicking ass, fellas ...

the kid out of Bettendorf is a very nice pickup at wideout and the lineman that committed is a horse

QB out of Chicago that has it down to the Hawks and Louisville and Bernstein out of Des Moines looks like another potential early committment and probably the best in the state this year

Hawks are gonna go 11-1 or undefeated this year as the crop of kids at wideout with Cleveland in early from Texas is gonna suprise ya

Fellas .. scoop on Palmer:

Coming out of high school Palmer was ranked in the top 25 nationally according to Rivals, and ranked in the top 50 according to Scout.com. The kid has always had a reputation for having serious potential, and he showed glimpses of that potential at times in HS -- particularly when he outplayed Tyler Hansbrough at a scrimmage in Champaign

Doc: Sounds like they've done alright recruiting. I remember when they hired Alford and Ferentz and a lot of people were talking about how good the basketball program was going to be and the football program was slipping. Pretty much the opposite has happened so far. Hope Iowa can keep Ferentz around.

entire D-Line back. Stuffed the run all season. Miles back probalby at middle LB...lost some 2ndary with Jovan and Allan but they gave up quite a few yards in passing game as it was so that should not be a fall off. Shada and Godfrey got a lot of experience last year. Offense should be dynamite. Oline back, top back in the Big10 last year, Tate, Chandler, need a WR to step up but with the good TE play in Moeki and chandler, that will pick up some slack. coaches are big on the LBs showing this spring so that's a + as well after losing one of the best duos in the nation.

The one thing MICH will have in their favor is that Iowa will be sky high and in for a letdown of sorts after their win over the #2 Buckeyes in Iowa City.

Plus its in the BIG HOUSE............but Iowa has proven they can win that environment in past years.

I know, but MICHIGAN will be gunning for us, as we will be undefeated and ranked in the top 5 nationally.
