ARIZONA (19-15) AT PITTSBURGH (10-25)

ARIZONA -121

I am not understanding this line? Line should be -160 I think?
Maybe I am missing something that is why I am here at therx.

...........RF..RA
ARI 5.0 / 4.2
PITT 3.7 / 4.9

BA
ARI .271
PITT .235

RBI
ARI 163
PITT 120

ARIZONA -121

(ARIZ) Juan Cruz
2.05 ERA .147 OPP BA

(Pitt) Oliver Perez
7.71 ERA .321 OPP BA 27 BB 28 SO
Not only is his ERA almost 8 he has almost thrown
TERRIBLE!!!

This is Cruz first start of the season but he should be good for
a good 6 innings.

Nothing Wrong with Arizona Bullpen
ERA 3.48

Pirates vs a team with a winning record 6-16

Last 7 Games
Ariz .303 BA 5.6 Runs
Pitt .205 BA 3.3 Runs

Pirates are garbage!!!

What I can see is that you're taking the past stats, and previous matchups with other teams too seriously.

In their first game against each other, pirates blanked out the diamondbacks. Shit, diamondbacks didn't even score ONE run. Trust me, to linesmen, that means something.

All that really matters, is what's going on NOW. The same team that played last week, may have the same name as the team that plays this week, with the same players, but trust me, mentality wise, they are virtually COMPLETELY different players, which makes them a TOTALLY different team. A team can be one way against one team, but, TOTALLY different against another team.

Would all of that "edge" the diamondbacks have in the game, explain why pirates blanked them 2 days ago?

Nope. They just weren't the "diamondbacks" they were any games before that one. And the pirates were just a different "pirates team" than any of their other games.

Hope I've made some sense.

Because Ian Snell pitched his ass off. Pirates manager is really
high on him now.

Well, what's to keep that pitcher from doing the same thing again?

Nothing really.

Doesn't Cruz have 2 starts already?

My bad this from MLB.com confused me

"Cruz threw five shutout innings against the Cubs on Thursday night, earning a permanent spot in the starting rotation, the Diamondbacks"

Since he only lasted 5 innings in both starts and gave up only
one run in both games combined I just assumed it was in relief
my bad sorry about that. Still impressive!!

more Walks than Strikeouts.

I tell ya, only thing that really matters, is how they perform in ACTUAL game play against that team.

Atleast to me.

Only downsides I can see is how the current DBacks have hit Perez. Of the players that have faced Perez, Counsell hits .222, Clark hits .167, Green hits .235, and Luis Gonzalez is .250 against him. Easley is 2/6 .333 and Estrada is 1/3 .333 against him but that's about it. On the flip side, the Pirates have some guys who have had some success against Cruz. Craig Wilson hits him at .357, Jack Wilson at .353, Burnitz at .375, and Bay is 1/2.

Don't know how much this can tell ya as the sample sizes aren't the largest, but something to consider I guess.

That's the challenge of gambling. I see a difference between Snell and Perez. Snell has had a couple good games before his last gem where he gave up only 2 earned runs one game and 0 earned runs another game. Perez has given up at least 4 earned runs in 5 out of his last 6 games.

Yeah, and the pirates have the tendecy to hit those "magical" homeruns when they need it the most.

For some reason, I feel the stronger play for that game would be over 9.

I definitely want to watch that game though

my stomach still hurts, as soon as I saw chris and Kat standing next to each other I knew the fear of him losing was true, then that jackass Ryan was like...can you believe you are here chris? Sopme thought you were gonna go all the way...but your not, your going home...stay tuned for unanimous...yada yada yada...tough pill to swallow, but a good lesson and a reminder that there is no such thing as a lock even at -300...:pucking:

I usually get that stuff from cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/scoreboard. Go to pitching stats, find the game, and it has like "compare: diamondbacks v. perez" or something like that.

I'm thinking that AZ team total over 4.5 is looking good. They have gone over that in 6 out of their last 8 games and Pitt has given up that many in 6 out of 7 of Perez' starts this year. Those are pretty good odds!

Thanks for the thread Doc!
