MILWAUKEE –1 +1.03 over NY Mets (Pinnacle)
For Jose Lima this is his fifth team in the past five years and he’s been let go twice by the pitching starved Kansas City Royals over that span. Last year he went 5-16 with the Royals to go along with a 6.99 ERA. In his first start with the Mets this year he threw 114 pitches in five innings and allowed five earned runs in that start. Jose Lima is a gamer, make no mistake about that, the man wants to succeed so badly that he’ll embarrass himself 100 times to get one lousy win and he just doesn’t want to hang ‘em up. The Mets are giving him a shot but that won’t last long because he just doesn’t have it anymore. Milwaukee has been solid at home and Dave Bush has been extremely reliable. Bush has started seven games and has pitched into the seventh inning in three of them and has lasted at least six in all seven. Bush throws strikes, as his seven walks in 48 innings of work would attest to and he’s also struck out 39 batters. Lastly, Derek Turnbrow, the Brewers closer has been lights out and having a reliable closer is huge. Play: Milwaukee –1 +1.13 (Risking 1.5 units).

Oakland +1.26 over NY YANKEES (Pinnacle)
Barry Zito is 2-0 with a 2.29 ERA on the road. Chien-Ming Wang is 0-1 with a 6.38 ERA at Yankee Stadium. The Yanks are favored by this much because they wear pinstripes and that’s all there is to it. Zito has allowed one earned run over his last two starts covering 15 innings. In addition, both Matsui and Sheffield are out for the Yanks and that’s pretty significant, especially losing Matsui, who has been a rock in the Yanks line-up for a long, long time. Wang has made three starts at the Stadium and the Yanks lost all three to K,C, Baltimore and Tampa Bay and during that span he’s walked more batters than he’s struck out. We don’t care about Zito’s struggles against the Yankees; a quality lefty pitching at Yankee Stadium is an edge for sure and the A’s are overpriced here, end of story. Play: Oakland +1.26 (Risking 1.5 units).

Philadelphia –1 -1.07 over CINCINNATI (Pinnacle)
There seems to be a slew of very good-looking rookie pitchers in the majors this season but none of them may ever match the promise of Philadelphia’s young starter today, Cole Hamels. This kid could be the Phillies ticket to the division crown and it’s no coincidence that Hamels will make his major league debut against the strikeout prone Reds. Hamels dominated the minor leagues and in fact, went 14-4 with a 1.43 ERA and 273 strikeouts in 35 minor league starts. The left-hander went 1-1 with a 1.77 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 20 1-3 innings in four starts at Class A Clearwater, and went 2-0 with a 0.39 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 23 innings in three starts at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. In addition, the Phillies will likely be a little extra pumped up here with the intent on giving Hamels some run support. Big lean to the young rookie and the Phils potent offense. Play: Philadelphia –1 +1.10 (Risking 2 units).
