The Patriots have scheduled a press conference on Monday (noon ET) with quarterback Doug Flutie at Gillette Stadium. It is assumed that Flutie will announce his plans on whether to play another season, or retire and enter a career in broadcasting.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick are expected to be present for what the team is calling an "important announcement."
The locker occupied by Flutie last season at Gillette Stadium is now occupied by rookie kicker Steve Gostkowski. That might be an indication of which way Flutie is leaning.

I heard the rumor is that he is going to ESPN and be a college football announcer or analyst. Maybe they won't need Lee Corso anymore now.

Doug Flutie is one of my favorite people. He is a real class act and a player that far out-played anyone's expectations of him. He was a true talent and should have had more opportunities when he was younger...BUT, he took what was given and ran with it...and ran and ran and ran. Great guy. I have mixed emotions regarding his retirement.

Thanks, Doug Flutie, for giving us a great show and for giving us great life lessons throughout your career. tulsa

I agree. And Wade Phillips blew his last chance at a gold ring by replacing him with a returning Johnson(from IR) for the playoffs-- after Flutie had taken the team there almost the whole season & to boot while in the midst of a winning streak. That was the stupidest coaching move i've ever seen.

FOXBOROUGH -- Doug Flutie is currently answering questions from the media at Gillette Stadium. He said he will work for ABC/ESPN as a sports broadcaster.

As cameras snapped, the press conference began with owner Robert Kraft speaking on Flutie. Kraft then presented Flutie a check for $22,000 for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick then spoke about his memories on Flutie.
After that, Flutie took center stage and recapped some of the memorable moments of his career.

I am trying to figure out how the hell he was even getting a paycheck in the last 4 to 5 years. Talk about a guy just goign through the motions, when he went in for SD or NE recently, it was a horror show.

Good bye, 5 years too late..

lol Flutie was the ultimate underdog, undersized with average mechanics but he certainly made the most of his ability..whether it was scrambling or making the clutch plays when they mattered.

Brees told a great story about the "Mayor of Boston" when they were in town and there was a playoff game @ Fenway ...

They didnt have tickets and Flutie said no problems and was treated like a King when he showed up at Fenway with everything comped and supposedly Flutie still adorable to the Babes

Used to play street hoops at PB Rec Center in San Diego and dominated against kids half his age. Dunks too. If there is a HOF for heart, he's first ballot.

There are other posters here that play at PB Rec, if they see this thread I'm sure they will vouch for it. Dude is an amazing athlete. Not a very good drummer though.

Too bad we couldn't see the CFL days. He was truly special in Canada.

Always liked Flutie. It's a shame he couldn't start somewhere in the league with so many crappy QBs starting in the league the past few years.

In the CFL (just like the NFL) QB's traditionally take their offensive linemen out for dinner a couple of times a season at least. When Flutie was in Calgary, he reluctantly went to dinner with his lineman once.....and billed the whole thing back to the football club! :icon_conf
