<!-- | 2003 Preview--></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><!-- HEADLINE NEWS --><TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=3 width="90%" border=0><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD colSpan=3>Red Sox try to make it 13 in a row over Orioles</TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD colSpan=3>The Boston Red Sox can win 13 straight games against an opponent for the first time in nearly 28 years Tuesday night as they continue a three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.

Since 1960, the Red Sox have posted four winning streaks of at least 13 games against an opponent. But with another win over Baltimore, Boston will have its first 13-game winning streak over a foe since it won 15 straight over Seattle from May 4, 1977-June 17, 1978.

The Red Sox have won the first seven meetings with the Orioles and opened this series with a 11-1 rout, which gave them their longest run vs. Baltimore since the franchise moved from St. Louis in 1954.

Boston, which received seven strong innings from Josh Beckett, will send Curt Schilling (5-2, 3.76 ERA) to the mound. Schilling has dropped two of his last three starts following a 4-0 start.

Schilling is 2-0 against the Orioles this year and 4-4 lifetime. He beat Baltimore May 5 in Boston and gave up three hits and one run in seven strong innings here on April 8.

Since their last win vs. Boston on September 5, the Orioles have been outscored, 87-36.

Bruce Chen (0-4, 8.42) will take the mound for Baltimore and tries to end a personal six-game losing streak dating to September 11. Chen, who pitched briefly for the Red Sox in 2003, is opposing Schilling for the second time this year.
Chen fell to 3-3 lifetime against Boston on April 8, when he allowed two runs and six hits in five-plus innings.

*Red Sox beat Orioles for 13th straight time*
=============================================

BOSTON 6, BALTIMORE 5:toast: :toast: :toast: :toast:
---------------------
BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- It hardly mattered that Curt Schilling
didn't have his best stuff.

Schilling labored through 5 2/3 innings and Manny Ramirez
homered as the Boston Red Sox continued their dominance of the
Baltimore Orioles with a 6-5 victory.

Trot Nixon also homered and Mark Loretta had three hits and an
RBI for the Red Sox, who beat the Orioles for the 13th straight
time. They are 8-0 against Baltimore this season.

Coming off his worst outing of the season - a loss at the New
York Yankees - Schilling again struggled but was good enough to
beat the Orioles for the third time in as many tries this
season.

Schilling (6-2) surrendered five runs and nine hits - three
homers - with two strikeouts. The veteran righthander departed
after throwing 116 pitches.

Mike Holtz retired the final batter of the sixth, Mike Timlin
pitched two perfect innings and Jon Papelbon pitched a 1-2-3
ninth for his major league-leading 14th save.

The Red Sox's bullpen settled things down after Schilling
squandered a 4-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, rookie Brandon Fahey and Jay Gibbons
belted two-run homers off Schilling to give the Orioles a 5-4
lead. But the lead was short-lived as the Red Sox battled back
to take the lead for good in the sixth.

Nixon drew a leadoff walk against rookie Kurt Birkins, who
quickly was pulled in favor of Todd Williams (1-1).

Williams retired Wily Mo Pena and Alex Gonzalez before walking
Kevin Youkilis. Loretta and David Ortiz followed with
consecutive RBI singles to give the Red Sox a 6-5 lead.

Ramirez hit a solo homer in the second, the 442nd of his career
to tie Dave Kingman for 32nd on the all-time list.

Orioles starter Bruce Chen was touched up for four runs and five
hits in four innings.
