BetCRIS phone wager screwup

I placed a phone wager with CRIS last night about 5 mins. before tip of the PHX/LAC game. I was at a baseball game at the time and could not understand the phone person. I clearly stated (on tape) I wanted a 1st half parlay for PHX and UNDER. They AGREE with me that it is clear that this is what I stated (on tape). However, when it came to confirming the wager, the phone person asked me if I wanted (blank - incomprehensible) and the UNDER. I said I could not understand him, can he please repeat. Again, I hear (blank - incomprehensible) and the UNDER. At this point, with less than 5 mins. to tip, I say yes, since it sounded like he said PHX and the UNDER. He places my wager, all is fine...

Until I get home to check the wager. At that time, I find out phone person put me down on LAC and UNDER. I called to talk to the Claims Dept. They listen to the tape, and ADMIT I clearly asked for PHX and the UNDER. They ADMIT I also say I ON TAPE that I could not understand the person repeating the wager to me. However, they refuse to credit my account. I would like to lodge a formal complaint against CRIS. The evidence is clearly in my favor. I say clearly on tape PARLAY 1st HALF PHX and the UNDER. I then clearly say "I AM HAVING TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING YOU." How is this my fault? I was told to call back tomorrow and talk to BRAD, but I see this going nowhere. PLEASE HELP!

I wouldn't have been able to enjoy the ballgame or anything until I called back and made sure my bet had been put in correctly. Maybe it was a small play and you put it out of your mind , I hope so. Good Luck!

I think this matter will get resolved to your satisfaction. Your clearly state what you want on the tape, and they admit to that, so case closed.

Was this a language/communication problem or a bad connection/phone problem with the clerk? Either way, I think CRIS will work this out with you.

Thats a tough one,,, it has happend to me a handful of times,,, Misunderstanding readbacks,,,, but in a hurry saying yes,,,, I do think your story has a HUGE difference,, you repeat your self several times, and the ticket taker just cant do their job,,,
this isnt just a Cris thing this happens at all books and Im sure most will agree,,

Best thing when they are garbled or background noise is high at a game is to reincorporate your plays in the sentence when you give your readback, e.g: "Yes, I want PHOENIX and the UNDER. PHOENIX and the UNDER is correct. Goodbye. "

I hate calling in bets for that reason, not only can you get a poor connection, but a lot of the clerks speak heavily accented English.

Ok here is the update...

I talked to Mike in Claims late last night, he is the one who told me I can be heard clearly saying PHX and the UNDER 1st Half parlay... He told me he could not fix it and to call and talk to Brad today...

So I called Claims and asked for Brad today, instead I got a female who told me Brad was not in. I explained my situation, she chastised me for being so careless with not listening to what they were repeating. She "graciously" refunded the $50 I wagered but refused to place the winnings from the wager ($140) in my account.

This is total bullshit. Even she agrees I said PHX and the UNDER, but she blames it on ME for not listening to teller's confirmation. She also agrees that I can be heard telling the guy I cannot hear and understand him, but I WANT PHX and the UNDER 1st half parlayed for $50. What else can I do! I feel like I am getting royally screwed here! They give me back my $50 and SCOLD ME(!) for screwing up. I am sorry, but f**k that! I would never treat a customer like that when one of my employees screws up and there is evidence in the customer's favor (in this case very strong evidence). I am going to go around posting to all other forums I belong to about this situation unless I get my winnings from the wager. This is complete bullshit and the situation has been handled poorly by BetCRIS. I had a good amount of respect for them before this incident, but this has really left a bad taste in my mouth. I mean, it's just a $50 parlay that paid $140, so why should I get so bent out of shape, right? Well, if it was my fault at all, I would accept responsibility. But WTF else am I to do if I clearly state ON TAPE what my bet is and tell the guy that might as well be speaking Mandarin Chinese to me I cannot understand him but I want PHX and the UNDER. For right now, BetCRIS will not be getting any favorable referrals from me until they credit my winnings as they should.

So is it unreasonable of me to expect my wager and winnings to be credited to my account? CRIS will only refund my wager amount and no winnings. I have not been in this type of situation before and would appreciate any feedback.

Why you'd be playing at Cris is beyond my comprehension. They are a book that is built on reputation and not actual offerings. I'll be there for football openers, but that is about it. Couldn't they step up and offer reduced juice? Ovverated. especially during the summer.

Oh believe me, if I do not get credit for my winnings along with my wager amount refunded, I will be out of there ASAP and will give negative commentary about this while experience to every forum I go. I actually really like their wireless wagering setup, and that has been my main attraction to them thus far. However, that piece of shit crashed last night which is why I had to phone in my wager and am in this position in the first place!

If they really wanted to stick to the rules, the readback is final & you lost the wager that you approved in the readback.

Giving your bet back but not the winnings seems fair, If you can't understand the readback you should never agree to it. Readback is final, so if you can't understand what the readback, and you agree, you are putting yourself in a bad position, to be honest with you I know a lot of shops who would not give your $50 back even since the readback is more important than what you first asked for, the reason they will not give you your winnings is because in sense you had both the clips and the suns in the first half parlayed to the under. This is a very fair resolution.

Coming out here and threatening to bad mouth a book like CRIS is just going to ruin your reputaion as a poster, you agreed to the readback, you should be happy to get your $50 back, Don't come out here and sound like a moron in saying you are going to bad mouth the book, if anything this makes CRIS stronger in that they were willing to change the rule to your favor and give your $50 back. Readback is final, if you don't understand it , then don't cinfirm it.

so dont get too upset on this

i think it was left at the discretion of the person answering the phone call whether its a bet or not

this whole thing re phone bets is a stupid grey area

if the bettor clearly says i want for example phoenix -5 and the clerk writes sac +5 honestly its just bs - its because the clerk doesnt understand english properly - dont shoot the player who is stating what action he wants

I don't know who you work for, or why you don't understand, but they have me ON TAPE saying very clearly Phoenix and the Under. They then have me telling the person I cannot understand him several times. What in the fu*k am I supposed to do with less than 5 minutes to tip? Call back and get the same guy who cannot speak english? They are using this whole readback bullshit so they don't have to pay the winnings on the ticket. Remember, it is not even in dispute (they completely agree) that I was trying to select PHX and UN and that their phone operator screwed it up. Don't hate on me for that. I like to place the blame where it really belongs, unlike you apparently. Tell all your fellow book employees I think your theory is great for them.
