My father just passed away. He moved out to Vegas and enjoyed most of his retirement.
I will be going out there next week to tie up all his loose ends. I have made most of the arrangements and the cremation is all set. Only real dilema I have is to what to do with his possessions.
He lived in an apartment on Valley View so there are not that many things and alot are older.
Does anyone know of a worthwhile charity in LV to donate his possessions to?? There are some clothes/canned goods/small appliances etc.
Any idea what to do with the larger items--like the bedroom set/TV/dining room set?? These are older--but clean and usuable. Does anybody out in Rx land need anything??
The only thing of value is a Leather Sofa/love seat/chair that he recently purchased for $1200. Any idea how to get rid of quick--will only be there 2.5 days.
Thanks

I am very sorry for your loss and I hope everything goes well when you arrive in Las Vegas. I do have some ideas for you, but would rather share them with you in an e-mail or over the phone. Please e-mail your information (date, contact number, etc) to editor1107@hotmail.com

Sorry to hear about your father....craigs list is a good way to get rid of your father's couch....you can set up the add on line before you get out here.

We give a lot to AMVETS...they will come pick up the stuff from your father's apartment.

Good luck

Sorry to hear about our Dad.

BW is a huge contributer to Opportunity Village, very worthwhile charity. Not far from Valley View either. Most LV charities won't even come to your house to pick up things.

Very sorry to hear about your loss. My mother and Sister both live here in Vegas in a 55 and older Condo located on Valley View. Just curious where your father lived. I have a pickup truck and I would be glad to assist you in hauling some of your fathers stuff to Oppurtunity Village or any other good charities nearby. Of course I work during week so it would have to be weekends. You can get my e-mail address from the moderators if you ask for Fish or Will

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Since it's the weekend, you might try a yard sale. Get those posters up early announcing the sale within a 8 block radius. You'd be suprised at what you can sell at these yard sales. If you haven't done this before, make sure you have plenty of change in cash....like singles, 5's, 10's etc.

If you are near a major intersection, make sure you post signs there. I believe Father Joe is out there, and you can arrange for pickups of what you don't sell with them. There is also Goodwill and the Salvation Army.

Thanks guys. What does Opportunity Viallage support??
I might take some of you up on your offers--I really only want to get enough cash to cover my trip out--then the rest can go to charity.
He lived in Country Club Senior Apartments.

Opportunity Village is a non profit Organization for people with Intellectual Disabilities. They provide skills schooling and provide jobs oppurtunities. The Country Club you mentioned where your father resided is not the same as where my Mother resides but is not that far away from where She lives. Drop me a e-mail when you need assistance. Hopefully you can sell some things to help with your expenses.
