The Mets' resurgence this season has made the series more interesting and this opening pitching matchup has the potential for fireworks. Struggling Randy Johnson takes the hill for the injury-plagued Yankees. He opened the season with three quality starts but in his last six starts he has been peppered (a 3-3 record belies his troubles; the 6.89 ERA in those six starts, does not). Meanwhile, Jeremi Gonzalez will start for the Mets. Jose Lima and Gonzalez are battling for one spot in the Mets’ rotation, and neither has done much to impress thus far. It’s easy to expect runs galore in this one.
And they bring Marquez and his 59.66 strike percentage behind the dish.
