Not counting people who got hurt, I have to say Beltre has to be the biggest free agent bust in the history of baseball. I cant think of a close 2nd. Can you?

Drefort would be #1 overall and Mo Vaughn and Kevin Brown would be up there to, but when you take away the players who got hurt and add in the money they get paid, I dont think you can come up with a bigger bust in the history of baseball. Hes killing the Mariners.

May not even be a second, let alone a close second, but that 5 million dollar display Richard Hidalgo put on in Texas last year was disgusting to put it nicely.

Worst trade:

Jeff Bagwell for Larry Anderson would be right up there with the Glenn Davis trade.

Pitchers:

Kevin Brown

Darren Dreifort

Eric Milton
(Hmm..extreme flyball pitcher in hr park..smart)

Russ Ortiz (Chop, you gotta smile about this one, boy drank the mazonne juice. Only guy ever to lead the league in walks and wins. Average year, leads the league in wins thanks to TONS OF LUCK AD RUN SUPPORT, and the DBacks can't see it)

Greg Vaughn by the DRays

Javy Lopez by the Orioles also was bad.

Beltre also bad.

Mazzone juice??? The guy was a better pitcher with the Giants than he was with Atlanta.

Beltre is the only one on the list that has been injury free. Even if those other were not injured, you can make the case that all of them have done more for there teams than Beltre making much less than half the money.

True Clip. But he was never actually VERY GOOD, and was sometimes above average.

17-9 with a 3.29 ERA in 219 innings...opponents hit only .232 against him with an OPS of .633 in his 3rd season. He was a budding superstar.

I think he had a couple seasons where he was VERY GOOD. Just my opinion though.

Who had 91 walks and 169 K's. Pitchers with less than a 2-1 ratio do not usually become superstars. Also really helped that he played in what was a pitchers heaven, as Pac Bell supressed everybody but Barry's homers at a ridiculous level.

You read way too much into raw numbers.

He was 18-9 with a 3.89 ERA in Candlestick 2 years before the season I posted previously. That was his rookie year.

I would say that is a VERY GOOD rookie season. Not many pitchers put up those kind of numbers.

But to stay with this thread, he was definitely a bust as a free agent.

My only point was he was not a good pitcher because of Mazzone.

It may not sound a like a lot now but i think it was 3 years and 6 million, at the time quite a bit, the Brewers gave that to Franklin Stubbs.
Then another Brewer signing, after one year ripping it up in Colorado they gave a ton of money to Jeffery Hammonds. LMAO
