"We're terrible, there's no other way to describe it," Elarton said. "We're just pretty bad in every facet of the game.
"If we play well offensively, pitching or defense lets us down. It's a vicious cycle we're stuck in, and it seems like no one cares. If that continues, it's going to be a long season, because it's only going to get worse.
"You at least need to get beat with some pride. If you're going to get beat, at least go down swinging. You have to have the desire within yourself to go out there and not get embarrassed every day. If you don't care, you're not going to get better."
I guess Mientkiewicz made some too, but not quite as bad as Elarton's
"There comes a time," said veteran Doug Mientkiewicz, "when you have to look at yourself in the mirror and say, 'I'm tired of being a sideshow.' This is inexcusable, and I'm not excluding myself from the problem.
"You're going to lose games, there's no way around that, but this seems like the same rerun every day. This game is about adjustments, but we're going through 'Groundhog Day' every single day. There has to be some kind of pride factor involved, because people here deserve more than we're giving them."
