Does the RX have the technical capability to keep ANY poster from VIEWING any or ALL of the forums that are available to view. With having All posters IP#, does the RX do this if they have the technical capability? LT

It can be done on a per-user basis (not IP)

TT, thanks for the quick reply. Now that I know you can restrict selected viewing of forums, have you done this and the reason why? I can understand banning someone from posting but NOT from viewing. LT

As far as I know, it's only been used to keep touts or bashers out of the sports forums. You're right Coach-it would be ideal to let them view a certain room, but now post....but the software has our hands tied there.

The block a user from a particular forum function is only used when a user or poster abuses that forum. This has been done mainly with touts posting plays in sport forums and a few times in the political forum to cut down on spam. The user can simply log out to read the particular forum he is blocked from viewing from but cannot post in that forum. IPs have nothing to do with it. Blocking a particular forum for posters differs from total post review or out right banning in that it only effects a particular forum and does not restrict use of any other forums.

We ask touts to stop posting plays in sport forums but when then refuse to do so forum block is one of the tools moderators have access to that can make sure the rules of a particular forum are followed.

TT, one last question. Last night you used a term, JFC, that I had never heard before. I know it got Smokey upset. If you can, what does it mean? LT

Wil, thanks for the explanation. What is sad is that a poster, Smokey Wins, brings VALUE to the RX that very few can match and does it in a respectful manner. To compare Smokey to the few that are F Heads is just NOT RIGHT! I think the RX is being penny wise and pound foolish. I fear this will end badly. Wil, what is the difference between Smokey and guys like Bucsfan, OmniFrog, and ACE ACE except that they do not have web sites? Wil, you have a hard job, but there are shades of grey in life and this one qualifies.Family squabbles are always the most unpleasant. Thanks for hearing me out. LT

I agree with Coach...anybody should be allowed to post picks. The distinction should come from soliciting business. The posts that Wil cited had some informational value....at least one of them did.

What caused this entire issue (not quite sure what Coach LT has to do with it) is a Smokey Wins spam thread in the NBA forum that caused several posters to complain he was getting special treatment. I finally moved it to Site Promotions on Tuesday and blocked his access to The NBA forum. I could have placed Smokey Wins on post review but that generally is ineffective in these issues because the spam ends up in the post review queue. I could have banned him altogether but didn't feel that was appropriate. I will link the thread for anyone interested.

Title of thread by Smokey Wins:

Wanna Make $$$ In The Nba Playoffs????????

The thread was in the NBA forum for several days before it was moved yesterday at 10:30AM.
