I was just thinking about the future of American Idol. I could see it becoming like a sport where it never gets cancelled. It may even get so big that networks bid on the show like they do for football.

A.I has there Howard Cosell in Simon Cowell.

As long as Simon is there I think the show will go on and on and on.

I think no way. Look at the longevity of successful shows. Cosby Show, Friends, Seinfeld, Who wants to be a millionaire..etc.

All shows have to come to an end. People want to move on. I doubt Simon will want to be doing AI 20 years from now. Maybe Paula since she'd have zero career if it wasn't for AI. The public needs something new after awhile. Especially I think when it comes to reality shows.

As popular as AI is now we'll see many more years of it but no way do I see it 20 years from now exactly as it is now. There may be something with a similar concept.

Thats my whole point. A.I is starting to turn into a football type of thing. Its almost become a sport and not a show.

You cant compare it to Seinfield, you have to compare it to football, baseball etc...

Again, I think something like it will be around but it won't be the same exact show. Here's something I found from a business website.

Business Lesson #1: If you're looking for a business idea, remember that everything old is new again.

The Reality TV Way: American Idol may seem like an original idea, but this American TV series was based on entertainment entrepreneur Simon Fuller's British series Pop Idol, which basically borrowed elements from musical variety shows from the 1950s and 60s . . . which in turn were taking ideas from the radio shows of the 1940s and 1930s . . . which took ideas from 1920s vaudeville shows . . . which--well, you get the idea. The only sort of new idea Pop Idol presented was to offer a cash prize at the end of the series, but even that had been done recently in series like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (another take-off on a British show) and as far back as game shows during the 1950s. Obviously, nobody has to invent the wheel--you just need to come up with a wheel that looks flashier than the last one.

I was thinking when she gets busted screwing one of the contestants (wink wink Elliot), but DUI should take care of it

You know if any network could put on a show of chickens dancing in pink dresses and it draws an average of 30 million viewers a week and reaches the most influential buying demographic then they would. If it's the #1 show in America then they know they're putting something out there people want to see.

American Idol just about beats anything else other networks put in their time slot. It beat the Olympics and even women's figure skating.

Idol is NOT a waste of time on Fox. Actually other networks passed on the show before it landed on Fox. Now they're crapping themselves for not picking it up first.

this show is different from any other "reality" TV show. These Survivor -type of shows, where somebody stays on an island, or when someone marries a millionaire, or people figthting over a million bucks, thats the kind of shit that gets old real fast. American Idol is about music, plain and simple. Music has been around since the beginning of time, and will always be around. Music makes the world go round. Music is a constant in life, and this show allows you to learn about tomorrow's music stars and watch their careers unfold right before your eyes. This isnt some Mickey Mouse music competition where the winner gets a cash prize. These people end up on the radio, and it's the only reality show that turns out to be real in the end and have an impact on people's everyday lives.

20 years from now? I dont think so. I imagine this show will die down a bit when Simon moves on. Plus, you dont know what technology will be out 20 years from now. But they will continually find replacement judges to Paula and Randy. Being a judge on AI is turning into a nice job. The show is a cash cow, and they'll find celebrity replacements for Randy and Paula and pay them a hefty amount. But they'll need to find a genius idea to replace Simon.

Hopefully this show will be around forever. They need to make sure
they don't have another Chris Daughtry situation again. If not everything
should be fine!!
