TORONTO (CP) - The Toronto Argonauts have landed one of the biggest signings in franchise history.
The Argonauts have called an afternoon news conference to announce the signing of suspended Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams, a league source requesting anonymity told The Canadian Press.
Williams was recently suspended by the NFL for the entire 2006 season after a fourth positive drug test. He missed Miami's first four games last year following his third positive test.
Williams and agent Leigh Steinberg have been in Toronto for the past five days - Williams arrived on his own three days earlier - and have met with Argos ownership and president Keith Pelley. However, the two sides could only go so far until the Dolphins gave their blessing.
That blessing has been given.

We are relying on assurances made by Ricky, his agent, the Toronto Argonauts, and the commissioner of the Canadian Football League that Ricky will return to the Dolphins in 2007," Dolphins coach Nick Saban said in a statement.
"Based on these assurances and despite our concerns for Ricky playing in the CFL in 2006, we will leave it up to him to decide whether or not he will negotiate a contract to play for the Argonauts this year."
Williams will reportedly earn around $250,000 with Toronto, which would easily make him the highest-paid running back in the league.
Williams, 29, rushed for 743 yards last year and averaged over four yards per carry with Miami despite missing the club's first four games.

Does that include all the BC bud he can smoke?

200,000 highest salary there? Socialists need to raise more taxes to subsidize salary raises....Or sell their weed to raise those funds.

Do they have any drug testing up there?

Is that a serious question? :puppy:

I know in the "land of the free" they have drug testing for all sorts of occupations but, to the best of my knowledge, in Canada we subject only Olympic athletes to drug testing.

He must be broke to risk millions to make that this year in the CFL. He will have a big year up there no doubt if he doesn't get hurt.

I'm sure he'll dominate. Worse players (recently, Lawrence Phillips) have done well in the CFL as RBs.

Lawrence Phillips did Okay, but he was far from super dominant, he was the second best running back on Montreal....

Lawrence Philips was very skilled aswell, just a complete whack job, thats all.

I expect Williams to do well however.

I understand the THC content can get up around 10%.

Even driving your car through the border is dangerous if they vacuum it looking for the stuff, even if you think there is nothing on board. Heavy jail time.
