anyone got the real answer?

If you book both sides at -105 then for every $210 you collect you pay out $205 and retain $5, provided your book is perfectly balanced. Thus you retain $5 of every $210 placed for a 2.38% hold.

Is this what you were looking for or is the question more complicated?

Edit: looks like I'm too longwinded and too late again!

-105 on both sides holds 2.38% with balanced action.
In a fantasy world. In the real world the book must win decisions. A wise guy store usually needs favorites and a square store usually needs dogs. Holds are as illusive as the final scores to figure out beforehand.

True CC but using the mythical "balanced action" to compare, there is a big big difference between vig associated with 20 cent and 10 cent lines. Not a lot of room for error. If I was in the business I'd hate to take bases with a 20 cent line, wouldn't think of it with a dime line.

easy way is the multi-way calculator on Pinny site, you can figure out for any set of vig or more than 2 outcomes.

One book had about 45% hold on AI with futures with 4 ( I think) contestants left. You can figure out what a scalp holds to, like +110, -105. Then you can figure bet amounts ( to balance) with:

True, I didn't say they balanced, but if they do they hold. Most probably hope for even after overhead expenses. Twenty cent lines likely get little action.

Doug, I used the scalpulator site you mentioned and while using it I received a message from my computer saying "This site is trying to open one of the sites on your trusted sites list, do you want to allow this?". I DO NOT LIKE THIS. I would NOT ever use a site that tries to open another site without my knowledge or permission.

I don't get that message. I think somebody here made the site, I don't know what to tell you, Bill. If uncomfortable with it don't use it. There's probably a similar one. Maybe a guy with experience in security issues can address the issue ?

I see Canbet is listed as a sponsor there.

According to the text books, a dime line holds 1.9%. It's less than 2.38% if you take into account when the teams are not equally matched. As the line moves higher and you keep it at 10 cents the hold goes down.

True, the 2.38% is the max, 1.22% at -190, +180. Not a really moneymaker, but you might draw in some parlays, total bets, soccer, casino action, etc. to survive the summer, and keep your book current in customers memory.

I'd offer the dimeline, and hope for the best.

ok, now what is the reason for asking SS?

Just pick more winners than losers enough times to turn a profit.
