Have been offered a prop bet for 20k to drive over to Casino Windsor in Canada and jump into the Detroit River and swim all the way across to Detroit, Michigan where I would collect my 20k. Can not use any floatation devices such as tubes, life jackets/vests, rafts, water wings, etc. May wear a wet suit and flip flop shoes on the feet, but no ther snorkeling gear. Fully confident in pulling this off as I swim often and believe this can be pulled off as I have the athletic ability to fight off the currents. Thoughts?

Are you or is this with that poker player who always does these kinds of prop bets?

TED FORREST

Are you him or is it with him?

I have read about some of the prop bets this guy has done and its amazing. One of the most famous was a $10,000 bet that he could drink 10 beers in 30 minutes. In another memorable bet, he won $7,000 running a marathon on the hottest day of the year in Las Vegas around the track at UNLV. Forrest even won $1.5 million from Barry Greenstein once in a month-long game of Chinese Poker.

The Detroit / Windsor tunnel is almost 1 mile exactly, but it looks longer than shore to shore. I think we are talking about a distance of 3/4 mile.

I dont know you personally but I would say a 3/4 mile swim should be a piece of cake. The currents in a river like that usually run side to side and maybe will push you offcourse but you shouldnt be swimming in to a head current.

Sounds like easy money.

10 beers in 30 minutes seems pretty doable. I could come close, or easily find someone that could do it for sure. The mile swim doesn't sound bad, unless you have to land at a certain spot that currents would make impossible.

Any legal issues with the border crossing ?

I dont know what type of currents are in this river, but the distance is very short for 20k.

If currents are not a problem, I agree this is very easy money.

1. Are you sure thats a river you want to swim in. 2. Can you drive to Canada on one hand and swim back on the other. Why not swim there and drive back. Who has ever swimed? to Canada?

Don't have a passport, however have a valid drivers license, social security card, birth certificate and military card. Another concern is slipping into the river and being harrased by border patrol or getting picked up and questioned or other such legal ramifications. Not every day someone goes for a casual swim at this particular part of the river as it is primarily used for business and boating rather than public use.
Unaware of any health risks also swiming in that garbage. Still looking into this and considering options.

Make sure to make out a will before you do it in case you drown.

Jeff Buckley tried to swim in the Mississippi river by Mud Island in Memphis and drowned, and he could swim...

What's the water temp? I spent some time in the Arkansas River at about 8500 ft over the weekend, and in that 38 degree water, you have about 30 seconds until you're hypothermic & have no strength whatsoever.

Hell would freeze over before you could swim 3/4 of a mile in that.
