Was going to take a day off because of the short card and my struggles both Monday and Wednesday. But the more I sit and simmer, the more upset I get at the way my baseball season has slowly disintegrated into little more than rubble.

There are two good matchups and prices tonight. Somehow, they decided to make Kazmir a dog against Bedard. I'm willing to overlook last Friday's mess - and the 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA this year against them. His career ERA is now 4.76 in five starts, which means it was a lot lower before the other bad game he pitched earlier this year vs. BAL. Bedard has one win since April 20 and has allowed 14 runs in his last two starts. He has only gone more than five innings in two of his last six starts. Rays avoid the sweep and win for the second time on this road trip.

The play: Tampa -102 - 612 to win 600

Verlander has allowed one run in 23 innings over his last three starts and is one win shy of the AL lead in wins. He has won each of his last four starts and he will be looked at to stop the bleeding, as the Yankees have come to town and won the first three. I have said it all along I am not impressed with Detroit and feel they beat up on piss-poor teams for the better part of two months in winning all of their games. Still, they have yet to lose five straight all season. The Yankees were without Damon, Jeter and Sheffield last night. Those first two guys are expected to go tonight, but neither is 100 percent, and Sheff is out. The Yankees have never seen Verlander and this seems like an ideal spot to lay down and head to Baltimore having won three of four from the team with the best record in baseball.

The play: Detroit -134 - 536 to win 400

That's it from me today. Will be around for another hour or so, then off until the morning...
