If not mistaken, believe the MEDIAN(not average) income in the U.S. is just shy of $40,000.

Somebody correct me if Im wrong.

To answer your question in relatively realistic terms, would say anybody making over $200,000 per year would at least have to be considered to be one making big money.

A lot of it depends on where you live. If you're in Boston\NY\SF\etc, you probably need 100k a year to live comfortably...and I'm shooting low.

Throw somebody in the rural midwest & that's huge money.

Thought the same thing before I read your post.

If you make 200,000+ you are making big money.

Agree with Ttinco - Living costs here in Ohio are really low (except for rising heating bills) - You can get by on 20k. Id say 100k would be big money. I don't really know anybody on a personal level that makes any more than that. Though I am sure people making 100k find plenty of ways to blow it and be broke all the time

so true. If you spend it as fast as you make it, you are no further ahead than the guy that makes minimum wage

I would say, some were between 750K to 1 Million.....But it depends on what life style you presently have. A guy making 30k and then starts to make 60K he thinks he is on top of the world. But the guy making mid 6 figures is not really happy till he gets closer to the Million mark..Just my Opinion...G.

I used to think that way.The key word is "used".Now I feel "property is the only true measure of money."While one can have cash hidden all over the place, its not making you any wealthier. But property is the BEST investment any newbie can make.Looking back buying as much property as I could was but far and away the smartest thing I ever did.
Cash just sits there and actually loses value, property keeps earning and earning.

I know that holds up most of the time, but I own in a market that it stable AT BEST......and the bubble is showing signs of stress!!!!

would say 100 k.

That's not much in a metro area. Hell, condos in downtown Denver start at $250K, and that's for maybe 800sf. A half mil is probably the median. That's one hell of a payment!!!

Depends where you live. Most places, you can live like a king on $200k, so yes, thats probably "good money."

But $200k doesn't buy shit in Hawaii, esp. when you consider we have the hightest state taxes to go along with the highest prices on just about everything.

350K is a safe general starting point for big money when comparing to ordinary, everyday working incomes.
