Well, Oral Roberts Univ, College of Charleston, and Alabama come through to close out their regions without a loss. Still have Florida State and South Carolina pending on region winner plays. Only downer was the Texas disappointment which I didnt play as heavy.

On to today's games:

Rice -2 1/2 -120 over Baylor

Rice will want to close the deal today. Not 100% sure who will start but am guessing we may see #2 Starter Craig Crow back after only going 3.2 innings on Friday. Rice has luxury of having been rained out on saturday, so they also have Joe Savery and Will McDaniel, both 10 game starters this year, available. Superb closer Cole St Clair has only worked 1 inning so far as well.
Bottomline, lots of pitching options left to Rice, but they dont want to have to play a second game today. Also, R ice has owned Baylor in recent history going 11-3 over the last 14.

Baylor has a couple of options with their staff. #4 starter Matthews has an ERA of 4.57 and has 38 K's in 65 innings. Opponents batting .285 against him. Mandell, how shared the #4 starts this year pitched 3.1 innings last night, while available, he wont be able to go long. One thing that happens alot in college bases tourneys is the use of a team's closer as a starter in do or die spots. Could see closer Cassavechia early in this one as he has only gone a third of an inning in the tourney. Dont see any on Baylor's top 3 being able to contribute much here as they were rained out Friday, played 2 Sat and 1 yesterday. #1 VanAllen worked 1 inning sat. and 5.2 yesterday, #2 LaMotta worked 8 sat., #3 Linebaugh worked 6.1 sat. night.

Dont like laying 2.5 runs, but Rice wins this game 9 of 10 and hopefully they get to beat up on a weak starter or some tired arms. Baylor, not a high scoring team as it is, is facing a fairly well rested staff. This will be my top play today since I have no region stakes on Rice.

South Carolina -240 vs Evansville

Notice neither team is in bold print. I already have a good stake on S Car to win the region, but this game is very intriguing to me. Evansville posted 15 runs in back to back games vs Virginia and S Car. S Car beat Evansville 4-2 in game 1 of the region on sturday using their ace Cisco for 9 innings. Other top 2 starters, Beverly only went 2.1 last night and Honeycutt went 6 saturday evening, probably not available.

Look for SCar to start Hempy today, again no way to know for certain at this point in time. Also have #4 spot starter Atwood available but he has not been sharp this year with an ERA of 5.47. Closer Pelzer is also fresh as he hasnt seen any duty yet.

Evansville #4 spot starters Fred Jones (ERA 2.16) and Kai Tuomi (6-1 with ERA of 3.61) available. #3 starter and closer Brinkman went 2.1 on saturday and 1.1 on sunday. #1 and #2 starters both went 6+ on saturday so not much to expect from them.

Since I am already on S Car for the region, I will probably hedge back with Evansville today. If I wasnt already on S Carolina, I would still probably throw a small play on Evansville and a small play on the over 11 total (caught this early, now at 12 in most outs).

Pepperdine -210 vs Missouri

Playing Mizzou small for these 2 reasons:
1. they have gotten complete games from their #2 and #3 starters the past 2 games. #1 Culp went 7 saturday in their 14 inniing loss to UC Irvine. Rest of the staff is available today. Pepperdine's top 3 havbe all gone 6 and 7 innings the past 3 days. #1 Enright went 7.1 on Friday, Coleman 7.2 Sat and Johnson 6 yesterday. They lack pitching depth from there down. Closer Hunter has gone 1.2 and that was on Friday. Pitching edge to Mizzou just due to the # of fresh arms they have left.

2. Mizzou wasnt even supposed to make the tourney. Since selected, they have been surprising everyone with their ability to stay in games and pull them out in the end. Playing with nothing to lose while all the heat is on Pepperdine.

At +180 to +200 in places, I like the dog as a value play here. You may even be able to catch a better # as the 4pm gametime approaches.

As for the other 2 games, I am already on Flor St to win the region by defeating Georgia today--I will stay with that.

Oklahoma -275 should beat Wichita St, but I will not lay the wood at that price.

BOL to all!

Found this in an article.

Baylor right-hander Tim Matthews (6-4, 4.57 ERA) is expected to pitch against Rice left-hander Joe Savery (4-1, 2.53) today at 4 p.m.

Thanks much, I was trying to confirm all morning. Didnt want to wait to put my post up waiting to find out. I was guessing that Baylor would go that way, but I am sure Matthews will be on a short leash. Hope Rice gets to Matthews early as not alot of options left for Baylor. If Rice gets up, they will use Crow and St Clair to close the door.

As per input from Box, I missed the fact that Hempy has been injured. Leads me to believe Pelzer will get the nod then. Box thinks they may also come back with Beverly after his 2.1 innings yesterday. Sorry for the oversight but it doesnt change anything as I have S Carolina for the region.

GL to all.
