Part of capping is being able to recognize a game where the line is off. How can you recognize value if you have no idea what the correct price of something is? What we used to do while sitting around the office is set our own lines on each game and see who came closes, of course we did this for $50 a game and before the line came out. Here are 3 games for Thursday, post what you think the opening line will be when it first opens on Wednesday afternoon. This is a very good drill to get you thinking about how the lines are made, what goes into them and what factors effect lines and by how much. If you are even remotely serious about capping baseball you should already be doing this, you should already know what the lines are (or what you think they should be) before you read them off the sheet.

You guys are giving Detroit a ton of respect. It will be very interesting to see that number.

Cant imagine Sox only being -110 tommorow.

well they're still first in the division, and Garland has been ordinary at best this year. ERA over 6.
Actually think today's and tomorrow's games will play a role in how this line is shaped. Rogers is still 7-3, ERA around 3.5. Can't see the Chisox being too high...

Good question Chop, what book we use does make a difference in the guesses. I will use Pinnacle's opening #'s. Lot of ways we could do it but since they are the first book to open that does not deal 20 cent lines we will use them. If anyone wants to guess again knowing that then go right ahead. Like to see the totals too but we will only go with the sides since most are more comfortable with them and they will be easier to grade.

BTW if someone guesses the same number you have then go ahead and put it down too. No problems with that. Over a weeks time or so it will be interesting to see who is popping the numbers more than anyone else. My guess is Fishhead if he plays, dude used to help set the lines in Vegas years ago, much sharper than most realize. Of course there is several around here much sharper than most of us realize, good luck everyone.

good thread Pat!

Thanks Jman, I could talk sports/gambling all day long. I like that phrase I am hearing around the forums - Let's get back to work!! Instead of bickering with each other let's get back to kicking the man's ass. Positive energy feeds off itself, same with negativity, I prefer the former.
