I saw Billy Preston perform as lead act for Ray Charles in Germany in the very early 70s'...He was pretty unknown at the time but very talented..


59 is young - RIP..Billy Preston..

Played in the early days with the BEATLES..Talented musician, definitely one of the good guys..

about 20 years ago i saw him play in vegas believe he was the lead for don rickles we went to the midnight show after seeing the hagler hearns fight. preston use to wear those soft 70's soul caps that were popular back in the day.

Man, cannot believe Hagler/Hearns has been more than 20 years now. "I wonder what the other guy's having for supper? Probably soup!" LOL! RIP Billy Preston!

He also wrote and sang "That's the Way God Planned It" in 1969

He toured as keyboardist (and vocals) with The Rolling Stones in 1975 (also Ron Wood's first tour while he was still in The Faces). At every gig for that tour Preston performed two numbers (That's Life and Outta Space).

If you have HBO on Demand you can check out Legendary Nights: Hagler vs Hearns. Very good stuff IMO.

I played keyboards in the 70's and I used to watch what he could do with awe. He was simply amazing.
