What would you do or say if you found out that your son was gambling?

When I'm watchinh the game on my computer my son is always asking me what's the score. Scary.

Thanks.

I guess it depends on how old he is. But if he is under 17 or 18...
Show him all the bashing that goes on at sites like this. Show him some of the losers and how much they have lost. Tell him of a personal, horrible experience at the hands of gambling.
Take him to the nearest casino and watch people come out of the exit.

Take him to a few GA meetings. Make sure he hears the horror stories.

You need to do a couple of things:

1. Document everything for yourself & your own gambling-- this includes reading up on bankroll management and getting some software. Never bet anything that doesn't get documented-- if you're interested in helping your son out, if not yourself.

2. Join your son in gambling together AND have your son do the same... give him this package of two manuscripts: http://horsestreet.com/products/index.html#Manuscripts plus a couple of books John Patrick wrote on the subject of betting and bankroll management: http://johnpatrickcasino.com/store1.html

Nature and his intelligence + common sense will follow course, and you will have set him up to almost guarantee he will succeed in life-- those tenets can be applied to everything.

Good Luck & best wishes.

Nothing wrong with it really as long as it doesn't get out of control. Back in the 80s before we had the net and offshores I was betting with my friends and playing blackjack at lunch, on the bus for field trips, and for half our journalism class. I would say at least 25% of the males were taking part in it. With the poker boom and the way sports betting is so much more accepted today I would be stunned if that number isn't closer to 50% now.

In any case no big harm in having kids gamble as long as the stakes aren't hurting anyone. Those kids will grow up and be bombarded with gambling options every day not too far into the future so they might as well get used to it and see gambling isn't all that much to get crazy over. If you try to keep them from doing it they will just want to do it more and will be far more likely to have problems with it as a result. Sort of like how many of the kids whose parents let them drink at 15 turn into alcoholics? I would guess its less than average because they learned to do it responsibly and with supervision.

I think I am not alone in hoping my son doesn't gamble even though I've made lots of money through it over the years. Gambling does consume you and there are better things to be doing with your time.
