Titans trade QB McNair to Baltimore

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Titans ended their stalemate with quarterback Steve McNair on Wednesday and traded the former MVP to the Baltimore Ravens pending a physical.

"We have granted permission to Baltimore to give Steve McNair a physical, which we expect to take place in the next 24 hours," the team said in a statement.

"Upon passing a physical, final trade terms will be agreed upon."

McNair, who turned 33 in February, was the winningest quarterback in franchise history. In 11 seasons, he went 81-59 and led them to their only Super Bowl in 2000. He and Peyton Manning shared the league's MVP award in 2003.

McNair won a grievance last week that allowed him to return to the team's headquarters and work out after being told he couldn't on April 3. The Titans had been trying to renegotiate a cheaper salary for McNair to lower a $23.46 million salary cap hit.

McNair was nearly the NFL MVP not too long ago but how much does his battered 33 yr old body have left to play in the NFL?

Ravens O-Line is still a huge concern....atleast they will have QB you can count on as a real proven QB, something they have rarely had.

he will fit in well with the Ravens since he already has an arrest record

Tennessee Titans star Steve McNair was arrested in May 2003 for drunk driving after his SUV was spotted weaving erratically through the streets of downtown Nashville. The 30-year old quarterback registered .18 on a Breathalyzer test, nearly twice the state's .10 blood alcohol limit. A search of McNair's 1999 Lincoln Navigator also turned up a 9mm pistol. While he held a valid permit to carry the gat, it is illegal to possess a firearm while under the influence. McNair was charged with DUI and the gun rap.

Too late - Their D now stands for declining - this would have been an outstanding move 2 years ago when their defense was Awesome and Mr Mcnair was not beaten up so badly

well no sense in talking about 2 years ago.

The Ravens are starting to resemble The Ravens of 'OLD' - and I am not talking about the year 2000

This signing will go down as one of the biggest blunders in NFL history!! They are giving him 12 million I believe and the Titans were balking at half that amount.

Why would the Ravens pay so much much when they were in a bidding war with no one? Makes no sense to me.

McNair was a great NFL quarterback but is now an "old" 33 coming off several injury-ridled seasons. Without a top-notch offensive line McNair will not last more than a few games.

Screw all you haters! McNair is a 5X improvement compared to Boller's lost ass. He still has a good 2 or 3 years left in him.

Calm down Erica Kane with all the drama. One of the biggest blunders in NFL history? McNair was a Pro-Bowl QB LAST year. It's not liked they grabbed Phil Simms off the sidelines. They want him for two years to try and win now and to teach Boller. What does the 12 million (actually $11 million signing bonus and $1 million in salary) have to do with anything? They have plenty of cap room. Why not spend it? The Titans were going to have a $23 million salary cap hit to keep him.

I'm normally not for the cheesy get together type deals but I would love to catch a game with some of the Rx Raven brotherhood one day. Never been to M & T before but heard it's nice.

There was never any scenario where the Titans were going to take a $23 mil hit to keep McNair. They were going to release McNair at the last minute and have now gotten a fourth round pick (possible third) from the Ravens.

McNair was a replacement for the Pro Bowl last year due to several others who had injuries. Did you see his "performance" in that game, the few snaps he took?

Look, you will not find a bigger McNair fan than me. I have, on this forum, on many occasions remarked about his past greatness and toughness. PAST.

I wish nothing but the best for McNair and don't blame him for snagging the big payday.

Biggest blunder remains to be seen. Time, as always, will tell.

I'm not sure where the Erica Kane comment comes from but I suggest you watch more football and less All My Children.

Best wishes to the Ravens this year and be sure to have a backup plan at quarterback.

watch that offensive line play like a brand new squad....

its a fact that when a o line doesnt have confidence/support their Qb, they dont show energy protecting him

All these boys know McNair is a gladiator who will give his last bone on the field

I like them to at least win over 8 -130 or so last I checked, and maybe battle for the AFC North or a wild card spot, their defense will be improved
