Yup, it happened again. Just to keep the tradition alive. Late last night Zach Randolph of the Portlalnd Trailblazers was pulled over in downtown Portland for "speed racing." The car is registered to Zach but he was not driving. Instead he was packing double trouble. Inside the car police discovered two loaded handguns. The guns are registered to Zach and he has a CCW license, so no citations were issued to him. Police said he smelled of marijuana but no drugs were found. His buddy was issued some traffic tickets and the happy two-some were on their way.
Zach was not available for comment today. The Trailblazers say they will conduct an investigation.

Could have been a lot worse. At least the guy has learned from the mistakes of his former teamates.

Police confirm sexual assault report involves Randolph
Associated Press
National Basketball Association News Wire

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Police said Monday that Portland Trail Blazers forward Zach Randolph is "involved" in a sexual assault report taken last week but is not a suspect.

Sgt. Brian Schmautz, spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau, said detectives are interviewing potential witnesses to the incident.

"The Police Bureau will now confirm that on August 14, 2006, an officer took a report of a sexual assault and that the report involved Zach Randolph," Schmautz said in an e-mailed release. "However, the Police Bureau is not identifying Zach Randolph as a suspect in the criminal investigation."

Schmautz declined to be more specific about Randolph and the report because of the investigation. The bureau would not let reporters read the police report.

Schmautz said the results of the investigation would be forwarded to the Multnomah County district attorney's office to present to a grand jury to decide whether any charges should be filed.

Randolph hired Portland attorney Stephen Houze to represent him, Houze's office confirmed Monday. Houze has represented a number of high-profile clients in Oregon, including his successful defense of former Blazers guard Damon Stoudamire on marijuana charges.

Team officials released a statement saying they could not comment because the matter is under investigation. "Once we have all the facts, we will act accordingly," it said.

A message was left seeking comment from Randolph's agent, Raymond Brothers.

Randolph led the Blazers in scoring and rebounding last season, with 18 points and eight rebounds per game, as the team finished with the worst record in the NBA at 21-61 -- missing the playoffs for a third straight year.

Article leaves out a lot. From what little I have heard, this has something to do with a stripper. If nothing else, Zach keeps good company.

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

Update--former Blazer S.Telfair is being investigated for a role in the shooting of some two-bit rapper in NY. The shooting took place shortly after someone snatched a $50,000 gold chain from Telfair's neck outside a nightclub.
This is the same Telfair that was reprimanded a year ago for "accidently" bringing a gun on to a team plane for a road game.
You can take the player out of the Blazers, but you can't take the Blazer out of the playa.

The decline of the Portland Trailblazers is downright amazing--I lived in Portland for a couple of years back near the end of their great run with Drexler/Porter, etc. I've never seen a city so ga ga over their sports team. I've always been pretty good with connections but for most of the time I was there I simply could *not* get a ticket to see a game at the old Memorial Coluseum. I was finally able to score some ducats for a few games only because my ex-wife was working in a restaurant that Jerome Kersey used to eat at regularly.

Blazer management was completely tone deaf to the community, and kept bringing in player after player that had character issues at best or were out and out criminals at worst. You know when your team's character makes Rod Strickland look like John Stockton, or when you're relying on Scottie Pippen for "locker room leadership" you got problems. I think as far as the community was concerned when Qyntel Woods was busted for running a dog fighting that was the last straw.

It's just amazing to me that a team that was basically a sellout for every game less than a decade ago is now losing money hand over fist....

In their history, the Blazers are more recognized for criminal activity than basketball accomplishments. Must be fun being a sports writer in Portland doing the nba beat. To recongnize them, the Cincinatti Bengals were the T'blazers of the NFL this year leaving the Vikings as last years news.
