Is the MLB TV package always choppy?

Picture is always pretty clear, but it cuts in and out. Ball will leave the pitcher's hand, and then the next thing you know, it's in the glove, but you never saw the ball in the air. It's just not a smooth and continuous motion. The audio doesn't cut in and out, but my picture always does. Is it my computer, or is the feed just low quality for everyone?

my connection is always pretty good, some games will have moments of choppiness, but overall the game is always smooth. the feed is pretty good as far as online video goes, it may be your connection or video card.

I'd start by running a bandwidth test on your connection (this is one of them http://reviews.cnet.com/7004-7254_7-0.html)

If your connection speed seems fine (the most likely cause for the pausing video but steady audio) - make sure that while you are watching games, you disable programs like limeware, bearshare or any other downloading programs. Sometimes people leave these running 24/7 and share their music etc (and they only start to use bandwidth when someone requests a song you have shared)

Streaming audio/video isn't too intensive of a task for your computer, but if you're using something that's considerably older, you might see it freezing too (like Willie indicated).

One of the above should be the case. If it doesn't - start up a thread in the the pc/tech room here and I'll try to help you get to the bottom of this. My MLB.tv almost seems to work better this year than last - so here's to hoping we can get the same result for you. :toast:

Open Task Manager & see what your processor utilization is at-also find out how much free memory you have. Live feeds can be pretty resource intensive, so if it's not a bandwidth issue, it's most likely just kicking your computers rear end & it can't keep up-especially if are doing other things at the same time.

Start - Run - Type MSCONFIG - Startup (here you can see what programs are running on Windows Startup, uncheck any that you don't need)

I posted a software in the tech section that is useful, you can give priorty to streaming video and lower the priorty on programs that you don't use. :103631605 This will help you.

Good luck

Illini,

Just curious, did you try the software mentioned above?
No, but thanks for the advice, and I will try it. I have just watched my Cardinals lately, and haven't watched any games on the MLB package in a week. But I'll try it and let you know if it helps me. Thanks again. :103631605

Not EVERY game is on Directv with the package, they are all on MLB.tv, its an oddity, since every single NBA game, with the possible exception of some on sundays when ABC takes over are on, no matter what station broadcasts them..
