Germany - Costa Rica
Pretty exciting game with 6 goals. Our team played their offensive style we were used to during the Confed. For an opening game it was exciting. Germany had a lack on def but the fowards compensated it. The team should be better with Ballack returning to the team for the Poland game.
Costa Rica surprised me somehow. The def of CR is horrible and their goals came from individual mistakes by the German players (offside trap).

Poland - Ecuador
First surprise of the tourney but for me it was not really a surprise. Poland played horrible in the last games prior to the tourney. They should have beaten Ecuador by having the better individual players but football is a teamsport. Ecuador really deserved the win. I would rate this game as a mediocore one.

England - Paraguay
Sven declared his team as the best for 40 years. Imo this team played a horrible match. In case England does not show up in the next games they will get eliminated after the stage 2.
Paraguay was a total no show. They had one chance in the whole game.
Rating for this game: boring

Sweden - Trinidad
I expekted this game to end under 2.5 goals. I saw the last two matches of Sweden and was not impressed by them. Furthermore I expekted a defensive match of Trinidad. Sweden should have had the power for scoring at least two goals but their forwards had no luck.
This game was exciting due to the fact of the surprise

Argentina - Ivory Coast
The most exciting game so far. Argentina scored an early goal and the Ivory Coast looked somehow shaky after that. The Ivory Coast had some pretty good chances after that early shock and Droghba played exactly what I expekted from him. The Ivory Coast really deserved a draw but overall Argentina was the better team.

Serbia - Holland
The early goal from Holland killed the tactic of the Serbians. It would have been a stalemate in the midfield without that goal. Holland would have attcked and Serbia would have waited for their counter attacks. Robben had an impressiv performance. The forwards of Serbia were a no show.
Rating: mediocore

Mexiko - Iran
It was a nice fist half by Iran but what happened at ht? They must have taken some pills or whatever. Zero chances for them in the second hald. Ali Daei is like a lame duck as a forward. Mexiko more than deserved the victory. It was a complete domination by them in the second half.
Rating: ok

Portugal - Angola
I wasted two hours of my life watching this game. IT WAS SO BOOOORING. I really understand the audience in Cologne (they started singing some local songs in the last 20 minutes). That game was a total joke. No pace, no fight, no chances for Angola in the second half, just one shot from inside - this game had nothing at all.
Rating: BOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG

On Monday we have the following games:
Australia - Japan
Should be a high scoring game. Both teams will attack.

USA - Czech Republic
Both teams have to win or at least get a draw. This will be a high tactical game.

Italy - Ghana
Not sure what to expekt from this match. The African teams are without any win so far.

So far, this cup has been very boring, with very poor skills and no excitement. If not an F, I would give a D.

Hopefully this will pick up somewhere soon...and no, Im not rating them 1 by 1 , LOL.

Most opening games are like that this is nothing to worry about as most teams play nervous to start and also play not to lose then to win since they are afirad to dig a hole that is tough to get themselves out of. The games will get better when the drama behind the games start to increase starting in the 3rd games of the group stage.

what happens if 2 teams tie for 2nd in the group standings and their head to head game was a tie and they had the same amount of goals scored and goals against them in the tourney who would advance?

just 50 % right. In case the involved teams play against each other at the last match and are all tied up they will go to penalties.

the Trinidad game has made this tournament for me so far...i'm willing to overlook some other stuff. except for the flop jobs Argentina pulled all game. That team has more pussies on it than anyone else in thiese games.

they're all pansies.
breathe in the general vicinity of any of the players and they fall down and pretend they broke their leg.
then they look around, see they didn't get a call, and run down the field.
give me a break.

Games rated 1-10 IMO...

Germany-Costa Rica
-The world was glued to the TV as Costa Rica gave a little bit of a show. Wanchope was the highlight (along with Klose) and CR was only down 1 at the half. Even when Klose seemed to put it away, Wanchope came back again... Perfect game to start the tournament. (8-9)

Poland-Ecuador
-Upset city...but was it really? Poland looked asleep and Ecuador took advantage...proving to the world that they don't have to be in Quito to win. (6-7)

England-Paraguay
-Good 1st half...but you would expect England to come out with more fire. They seemed to play more conservative after their goal (ala Italia). (6)

Trinidad&Tobago-Sweden
-I still can't believe what happened...T&T playing with 10 men the whole 2nd half and Sweden (with all that scoring power) couldn't get one past the back-up goalie for T&T. (Shots were 18-6 in favor of Sweden. Corners 8-1 in favor of Sweden. Amazing.) (8-9)

Argentina-Ivory Coast
-Argentina came out faster than expected. It looked like Ivory Coast was done after those two goals, but they came out strong in the 2nd half. If only they had more time after Drogba's goal. (7-8)

Serbia&Montenegro-Holland
-Robben was amazing and Holland really showed S&M how to play...the first half was all Holland...however, S&M were able to get their opportunities throughout. More yellows than usual in this one. (6-7)

Mexico-Iran
-Iran came out like they wanted to prove something...and after Bravo's goal to open the show, they did, with a beautiful goal that started off a corner. Not too many shots in the match, but it was nice to see a country like Iran play a world power. (8)

Angola-Portugal
-Portugal scored the second fastest WC goal in its history as Figo fed Pauleta. Portugal epitomized the style of holding back with the lead...playing counter most of the time. Angola had a few chances here and there...but Portugal's skill level was blatant over Angola. (5)
