Ok: so I thought about tossing in some World Cup action.

So the best place to get odds on the team I want to win is at betfair. Thing is, I've never played there before.

I did a search through the forum and found nothing bad about them, but that doesn't necessarily mean everything.

What is Betfair's reputation here?

Paypal Europe have endorsed a partnership with betfair. It's the US division of PPL that is forced not to let people do what they want with their money....

Although Betfair accepts Paypal for deposits, if your credit card that is linked to your Paypal account is banned due to gambling, etc. The transaction will not be completed.

I won't say that it's untrue, but I'd say that I'm 99.9% positive there is a way around it.

Yeah, that's not a big problem...the big hurdle is betting on the web from US w/o getting blocked. I'm talking serious & heavy betting that is not feasable to do through a proxy, much less telephone.

Betfair is without a doubt the "nuts", but we are getting kicked in the nuts by their no US bets policy. Ridiculous because you know they are accepting bets from countless countries which would also deem bets placed by their citizens as illegal, but they just don't want to tangle with Goliath.

People might belittle Canada on this site, but when you think about it the life for a professional gambler is so far ahead of the US. No tax if you can convince tax authorities you have a "real" job, not blocked from Betfair, no worries about the Kyl/Leach/Goodlatte bullshit, and if you happen to be a down on your luck gambler at least your healthcare will be taken care of. Downside? Other than the weather, can't get into Bodog, hehe.

move to canada or use a canadian friends account.

1. Move: works.

2. Use from US: ip gets blocked(you may be able to use account initially, but you will get blocked).

Now, if you know something else, i would be glad to eat crow.

I'm hoping Betfair acquires EHorse, like Youbet got RGI. In other words, keeps it independent while at the same time enlarging / improving it(& of course, turning a blind eye to its customer list details).
