Holy crap...this whole betting soccer thing is wierd.

So I'm running across this thing called an "asian handicap." WTF?!?!

It looks like a normal point spread...but is it?

From betfair:
"When betting on an Asian Handicap market you pick a team to win (or lose) together with the winning margin then team will win (or lose) by. The winning margin is expressed as a handicap, a number of goals that will be added to the final score to make up the result used for settlement of the bet."

So it also SOUNDS like a normal point spread.

But then I see a bet like the following:
USA +0.5&+1.0

and then I'm like wtf?!?!

The way I understand it is that I'm placing two different bets, with half my stake in each for the second one. One bet is at USA +.5 and the other is at USA +1.0 . Why would I just make two seperate bets then!?!

I'm confused....

I am the beetman, goo goo g'joob.

Yes, you understand correctly, half your bet is +.5 and the other half is +1. This bet is offered because the range of soccer results is very limited, as it's very common that a game ends in a draw or with a 1 or 2 goal win for either team, whereas other sports have a much wider variety of results. The difference between a team at +.5 and +1 is usually something like 80-100 cents using American odds, so the +.5 and +1 line allows for a bet at a moneyline with odds somewhere in the middle.
