WBAL TV in Maryland here tonight did a piece on BetCRIS and how unethical is it to offer lines on things such as hurricanes and any distasters .

They will probably re-run it in the 6 o'clock hour for anyone within the region.

The funny thing was they never even mentioned anything about it being illegal or possibly being banned.

Unethical? Hurricanes are natural occurences.

I could see them complaining about "death pools" and the such, but this seems to be a bit oversensitive & an attempt to make something out of nothing.

High level markets are being formed in this very area by major Wall Street banks. Are they going to call that classless? Of course not. Small bets on catastrophes and issues are an amazingly effective way of both risk management and can be eye opening for experts. To top it off, Microsoft has started similar markets for pennies to predict when products will ship. If the "market", MSFT insiders, predict a timeframe the managers don't agree with, the managers quickly look into it to figure out what they might be overlooking. Once again extremely valuable information created by something unsophisticated people think is in bad taste.

I personally think it's kind of f'ed up to take action on potentially catostrophic events like that.
Unethical? I don't know, probably not. Fuc*ed up? Yes.

I mean, if you bet for 3 category 3, 4, or 5 hurricanes to hit the US mainland this year, at some point you might very well find yourself HOPING for a major natural disaster in order to win your $100 or whatever. That's fuc*ed up IMO. I couldn't do it myself. But I have no problem with anyone who does.

Unethical? Please. The "legal" commodities exchanges profit and "make book" all the time from natural disasters. Just look at the futures contracts going bonkers on orange juice as this Fla storm comes in.

Lots of books offer props on what day of the week Fidel Castro will die. Skybook offered that one for quite a while, although I don't see it up now.

Thats funny. I guess it is a matter of what someone thinks is unethical. I guess they don't think gambling in general is unethical!:thumbsup2:
