At betfair the offer win and place bets
win = winner
place = second

ain`t I am right or is place the second and third?

The outcome of the race was 12-10-9

I had number 9 not to place. Why is this bet lost?

Place in the US is second only. Unlike allways that you tend to see in Europe.

That means the horse is not a win or place - right? The horse finished third. So it should be a winner, or?

lol - should have had a look at the rules. THIS BET IS FOR A HORSE TO PLACE 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Horses are NOT COUPLED.
I thought win = win, place = second, show=third as it should be and not place=1,2,3

So outside of US, place means finish in the money ?, as in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd ?

It's called different things in different places, but you will see this. It's like they only offer what we would consider win and show wagering with no place pool.

Lab you know where we can see the Cotto fight again since it won't be rebroadcasted? I can't believe that I had it as close as I did and the refs pretty much had Cotto winning almost all of the rounds off of occasional power shot yet they were effective.

Not really unless some enterprising person puts it up somewhere or gets streamed on a foreign network. That's great that HBO didn't pick it up for rebroadcast.

Thanks Lab, if I find it I'll let you know. By the way, I heard HBO didn't touch this fight because they didn't want Cotto fighting Mags. They figured it was a step backward but Mags actually gained fans because of this fight. Don't be surprised if they sign Mags up and have him fight cupcakes to replace Gatti one day. Oh sorry fellas for hijacking your thread for a min.

Place at Betfair goes according to field size as defined by each country's rules:

Field Size = Finish positions included

4-6 = 1/2
7--15/16 = 1/2/3
16/17--20/21 = 1/2/3/4
21/22--24/25/26 = 1/2/3/4/5
More than that's = 1/2/3/4/5/6

I've seen Place on 4 horse fields, so that must've started before a scratch...
Ditto for 7...& this one's a Duh! Could've been Lay Placing all this time at that field size.

but no 5th/6th for big fields?

so i ASSumed wrong...

to be placed in Uk terms means to be in first 2,3 or even 4 depending on the number of runners and type of race. See the rules tab on the race market. Typicall a race 5-7 runners Betfair will have to be be placed as 1st or 2nd and 8 runners+ 1st, 2nd and 3rd - this is just the UK way and most of their customers for US racing are UK bettors firstly.

as for place on 4 runner races - Betfair does not change the number of places if there are scratches even for UK races - they have reduction factors which take this into account.
