The Arizona Diamondbacks decided Tuesday they would rather eat the remaining $22 million of Russ Ortiz's contract than keep him on their roster.

Ortiz is believed to be the most expensive player to be cut loose in baseball history.

What a lucky bastard!

I read somewhere today that Forbes magazine recently published a bit that the Yankees are worth one billion dollars but still operated in the red last year. The Red Sox were the second richest at about six-hundred ninety million and they too operated in the red last year.. Tampa D-Rays were the poorest team at two-hundred sixty million.. That is hard to believe. I'll try to diig the source up possibly.. And, I also heard the Pittsburgh Pirates, while being the lowest paying team in MLB, are the eight highest earning team for their owners. Sorry if these numbers are off, going from memory here, but anyway...

22 million, I could do some real big pimpin that!
