You have to wonder how this article would be received if it were published in Washington State ...

You bet, Ricky!
Will Williams lead the CFL in rushing or win MVP? Place your bets ...

By JONATHAN HUNTINGTON, EDMONTON SUN

One of the biggest online sports books in the world has definitely noticed Ricky Williams's arrival in the CFL.

While many offshore gambling sites offer betting on individual CFL games and future wagering on the Grey Cup, pinnaclesports.com offered some very interesting proposition wagers on Williams.

The oddsmakers for the sport book tempted gamblers with three different bets before the regular season started this past weekend and wagering was cut off.

Bet A: Will Williams lead the CFL in rushing?

Yes: +325
No: -355

In other words, Williams is a long shot to lead the league.

Bettors had to wager $355 before the first game of the season in order to win $100 if they felt the newest Toronto Argo wouldn't top the rushing chart.

On the other hand, bettors believing the former Miami Dolphin will lead the league laid down $100 and will receive $325 if he follows through.

Bet B: Will Williams win the CFL MVP?

Yes: +1,000 (wager $100 to win $1,000)
No: -1,400 (wager $1,400 to win $100)

A mammoth long shot to win the hardware.

Bet C: Total average yards per carry for Williams (at the end of the year).

Over 5.5 yards: +121 (wager $100 to win $121)
Under 5.5 yards: -131 (wager $131 to win $100)

Thegreek.com - a much lesser known book - offered two Williams prop bets, including an over/under wager on how many yards on average the NFL-suspended back will gain per game up north. The line in the sand was 80 1/2 yards per game.

A BETTOR'S PARADISE: While it is much smaller in stature, thegreek.com is the only book that also offered fans some intriguing head-to-head proposition bets involving many of the star players in the CFL. All betting closed 90 minutes before the first regular-season game of the year. Here's a taste ...

Bet 1: More passing yards in a season - Ricky Ray or Anthony Calvillo?

Ray: -130 (favoured)
Calvillo: +100

Bet 2: More rushing yards in a season - Charles Roberts or Joffrey Reynolds?

Roberts: -120 (favoured)
Reynolds: -110

Bet 3: More rushing yards in a season - Troy Davis or Josh Ranek?

Davis: -110
Ranek: -120 (favoured)

Bet 4: More receiving yards - Jason Tucker or Ben Cahoon?

Tucker: -140 (favoured)
Cahoon: +110

For the record, Williams had 18 carries for 97 yards - a 5.3-yard average - in his first real game on Saturday.
